I have been having problems with my 97 blazer. I just had a transmission put in it. As I drove it home from the shop, the transmission started jerking pretty hard as I exited the highway and changed into a lower gear. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Is it possible I got a bad transmission? Oh yeah, and no codes came up on the computer before I drove it away. :banghead:

Welcome to AF.
If you can check the fluid level and make sure it is full of transmission fluid.
If not fill it up with fluid and watch for leaks or fluid running out.
Do not drive it low on fluid.
But main thing is.
You need to take it back to the shop that put the transmission in and have them check it out and find out what the problems is.
If it is jerking or low on fluid it might be wise to call the shop and have the come get it to check out.

Most good repair shop warranty there work.
If it is a transmission problem.
If I was you I would ask them to fix it on there dime.

Let us know how it goes.

Was it a used transmission or a transmission repaired or a rebuild?

You might want to have them check the engine and make sure it's running properly. If the engine runs poorly, the transmission will perform poorly....kinda like a computer, junk in , junk out.

It was a used transmission.
I had initially taken the car to the shop because it was not starting and dieing while I was driving down the road. The computer showed transmission codes, so they told me the problems I was having was because of the transmission. I'm no mechanic, but I knew it wasnt related. Anyway, so I took their word for it, they put the transmission in. when I started it the first time, I knew it was messed up. I put it in reverse, and it died. I started to drive it off the lot and then I had no brakes. So I test drove it, brought it back to them, told them it wasnt changing gear right. So they test drove it, and made me look stupid and said it was fine, and they cant fix a problem if they dont see it when they work on it. They didnt even remember the conversation where they promised to fix the ORIGINAL PROBLEM. So I came home, did some internet research, and found that the not starting and dieing is probably the ignition. Yea for me, I figured that out. But now, how can I make them believe that the damn tranny is messed up!!

Oh my,
Yes the 97 has a lot of ign switch problems that can make a engine die or act up and also can make the transmission act up.
I can not say for sure but that may have been what made the transmission act up or why the put a transmission in it.
Did they throw in a used transmission or a rebuilt or repair yours.

If the shop is not going to fix it on there dime or help you out on there mistake.
And Unless you want to try a DIY fix yourself on it.
If so post back.
If not.
I would be looking for good repair shop to fix the real problem.
Tips on finding a good repair shop.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

You have a DIY fix? I could try that except now, it wont start at all. I went to leave from work, turned the key, the lights came on, and went off. Now it wont start. My radio and heater works, windows work, but no lights in the dash come on. Im so frustrated.

The DIY fix is what is called. (do it yourself)

If you are electrical and mechanical minded and capable someone will help led you threw it if you want to check it out and do it yourself.
You will need a good 12 volt test light or a good volt/ohm meter.
And a few tools for the switch replacement.
Also some good repair info or a repair book sure does help.

But first thing do some checking and testing and make sure the ign switch is the problem before replacing it.
If it will not start at all is a good time to check it out.
And you might look threw the how to section for ign switch replacement.

First step in testing is make sure battery has 13 volts and battery cables ar good tight and clean.

Then with ign on check the fuse box fuses and for 12-13 volt power.

Some of the main fuses to check for key on ign voltage is.
A good old type bulb test light can be used for fuse test.
Make sure the bulb lights up good and bright on both sides of the fuse.
Engine fuse no 5
Engine ign fuse no 10
Engine battery fues no 9
Gauge fuse no 4
Transmission fuse no 21
Crank fuse no 20
There is some others but these are the main ones to get the engine and transmission going and make sure ign switch is good or bad.
If no power to all or some of the fuse listed fuses better check and or replace ign switch.
Fuses should be numbered for ID and owners manual should have location and fuse ID in it.

Here is a link to the ign switch how to.

I have been waiting for the holidays to pass to hear from the lot about my car. Since then, I have been stranded cause my car wont start. I couldnt even finish my xmas shopping. I had talked to them and the guy says to me, "Oh well, I knew it was that ignition switch all along." WHAT? He knew it, I knew it, we all knew it, so why didnt you fix it the first time? I feel so irate!!!! Well, since this new revelation he had, he was supposed to hook me up with a shop to fix it. I havent heard from him since. He did tell me, it will start eventually, if I just keep trying. This helps me a lot. Cause I just love to be stranded with my 9 month old baby and my 4 year old in the car, when it is 17 degrees outside, and my damn car wont start. But at least I know it will start, eventually. As long as its not the first time it really doesnt start at all. hmmmmm.
Well, I have got it to start a few times, and to my suprise, this one time, shame on me, I tried to accelarate a bit, and my car made this noise, like the whole engine was going to fall out. It seemed stuck in first gear after that. But then, it wouldnt go in reverse, at all. So, now I'm not driving it in fear that something worse will happen. Someone told me that maybe the transmission had dropped. What does that mean anyway?

I would suggest you do some checking around for a good repair shop.

Good Luck
