amp in front of car

Obviously the most common setup is to put an amp in the trunk with the subs. But I was wondering, is it ok to put an amp in the front of the car (behind the headunit) and just run the speaker wire all the way back to the subs, or are there problems from doing this?

I wouldn't think so. I think the power wires will be too close to the speaker ones and you will increase your chances on getting unwanted "noise" in the speakers/subs.

usually, the problem with mounting an amp in/under the dash is heat and trying to find a place to physically mount it .... it can be pretty cramped back there

But other than that, there's nothing wrong with doing that, right?

Why the front? Wherever you mount your amp, it needs to have some open space so it can cool off. So it really isn't ideal to mount it behind the deck, which needs open space to be able to cool off also.

there's nothing particularly "wrong" or bad with the idea, you just don't see it much because of space and cooling issues. One of the most awesome ones I have seen was the where the guy cut out the floor pan in the front and made a sunken tray then a fale floor on each side. That's where he put the amps. I want to say it was Chad Klodner's old mustang.

Now thats a good idea for a clean, hidden install. I have a few places in my TB to hide my amps, one is the space in the floor of the back its big enough for a decent sized amp its just im thinking it will get hot as hell in there, so i have some other plans.

Like everyone said, cooling issues and space issues. If its an amp for subs i doubt its a small amp, unless its a 50 watt amp or something. Im thinking you will get some serious interference. Have you considered under your seat. You can also look into your glov box, mine is pretty big. There are alot of options.

One idea i seen that was interesting was after some guy totaled his blazer, he used the passanger side air bag area for a PS2, had a fold down 12" screen, and the area in the steering wheel had a 7" screen. I like the PS2 but i would need a good reaso to pull my air bag module.

It was a 97 blazer, insurance company totaled it. He bought it back and did a ton of work to it. Its a show car, he drives it maybe once a week.

Yeah i know its Illegal to remove safety equip. But a large amount of custom cars dont have all of the original safety stuff. Ive seen cars that dont have the bumper pads, motorcycle mirrors, lowered etc. It depends on the state for as far as you can go to.

just letting people know ... it's illegal, if you choose to do so it's on you. I guess it's in the same category as "hot wiring" a DVD player in the dash to play while the car is driving. In both cases, you most likely will get away with it unless you are stupid.
