trouble with ignition

Wondering if anyone has ever had this problem. Have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500. went to start it this morning and the key won't turn. Tried another key --no luck. The steering wheel is loose (not locked like it should be if the you turned it off) and I can move it alittle back and forth some. But the key won't turn at all. Any one with hints. I tried moving the shifter but it won;t move either--even tried wiggleing the shifter but nothing. It is an automatic.

someone break in?

no not that we know of--kid drove it home from school--started fine--shut it off and went back in it this morning. Its weird cause like I said the steering wheel is free--it not locked like it should of been when the key is turned off.
