Tick noise

I have a 02 LS and a month ago a tick noise started. It ticks 5-10 times and then stops for a minute and then ticks again. The cycle repeats over and over. I do not know if it does while driving. I know it does it when stopped at a light or in park.
Thank You

From this desk anything we tell you is a guess, yourself or someone knowledgeable must listen to this.

You may have the same tick which my 03 TB EXT (6 cylinder) has. I noticed a pretty loud tick up front when it's sitting at idle. I was told that it is probably the fan clutch. Although do not recall seeing the fan doing anything unusual while the noise happened. I hope that this little tidbit of info will help ya.

SPB,
How long has yours been doing it? I had someone look at it with me and when the fan clutch engages the noise goes away and then comes back when it disengages. Does yours do the same?

Mine also just started doing the ticking noise a couple of months ago. Mine seems to be more random. It doesn't have a set pattern and it doesn't speed up when you hit the throttle. It has been impossible for me to trace where it is coming from since it just echoes throughout the engine compartment. I will probably end up having to take it to a mechanic. :(

I had my "ticking" noise checked out, they said it was the fan solenoid that was ticking. The solenoid was "telling" the fan the speed up its RPM's. The fan was actually rotating at the correct speed, so they told me I had to take it to the dealership to have the car's computer reprogrammed. But on the other hand I have heard that in some TB's the fan cluch was bad. I'm still procrastinating to take it to the Dealership to be reprogrammed, I'm afraid of the sticker shock.

Yeah, it is one of those problems that probably takes them 5 minutes to fix with no manual labor. Yet, they charge a ridiculous amount for their services. Gotta love the dealerships. :banghead:

I am currently experiencing the same problem. I took it to my mechanic and was told it was the fan clutch. Had it replaced and the noise is still there. My mechanic printed out a bulletin that said I needed to have the PCR reprogrammed by a chevy dealer. I took it there yesterday and showed them the bulletin. It ran about 94 bucks and it still is ticking. The chevy mechanic seems to think it is my water pump? I called my mechanic and told him. He doesnt think a water pump should be ticking. I see no leaks. I am completely frustrated at this point. So far this week I have put in almost 500 dollars and still the noise is there. I have been going to this mechanic for years and years and he has never done me wrong. He did insist that the fan clutch was bad and apparently chevy has some issues with this part.

:banghead:I looked at what the mechanic printed for me about 6 months ago. Does this mean that there is not anything that will make that freakin' tick go away???:banghead:

In my case it did not fix the problem. I am now being told the noise is coming from the waterpump.

I am beginning to think the mechanics are guessing as much as we are about this mysterious problem. :runaround:
