Yes, this time I worked in close to greys in the BG and then burned with the eraser tool to obtain highlights...

My background is actually in technical illustration.

A lot of what I've been doing lately is trying to break away into a looser style. I'm getting there with my line work, because I'm not a colour guy and I'm fairly new to PS, my colour/light/shadow/contrast skills still needs working on...but I'm getting there, with the help of input and critique by my peers. :)

are you just brushing it with a pen tablet or are you making selections and doing something more complicated

Nice work. The bottom 2 have a cool 80s futuristic look to them.
