Hey,
I was driving out the detroit snowstorm this weekend (there was snow all over the highway) and the car was slipping all over the place. I have the XLT V6 4WD, and I was told that it has a computer that puts the car in 4wd if it senses the tires slipping in the front. I notice the 4x4 light on the cluster, but it never came on during my whole drive, and I have been unable to get the car into 4wd. Why didn't the car activate 4WD when I needed it the most? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do have a button that locks it. My 01 does, but I am not sure if the late model still has it.

I have the same problem with my 2005 escape. I get a blinking 4X4 light every time the front wheels spin, but the rear wheels do not engage. 2005 and up do not have a manual switch like previous models. Any help is appreciative.
