Give it a day and you'll be back to normal food. You just have to eat with your front teeth. Percocets are a good time.

I remeber picking my brother up after he got his wisdom teeth. The jackass jammed out to techno in my car for 1/2 hour, ripped out my ashtray in the 3000GT looking for a CD (WTF?), and asked me how I got the sandwich I was eating 15 minutes after he and went through the Burger King drive through. Sounds like fun for the other person though.

My orthodontist recently told me I have a wisdom tooth coming in croked so it might need to be taken out. I didn't like the sound of it, but now I'm hoping to go under the knife

Man when I had mine out I cant even remember half the stuff I did just after I woke up. Aparently I got out of the surgens chair, got into the docters chair started spinning around in circles going "WEEEEEEEEEEEE" in the amount of time it took for the docter to step accross the hall to get my mom. Mind you this was in High School. The docter also gave me a scratch ticket, but I didn't relize this until 3 months later when I asked my mom what this scratch ticket had been sitting around for so long for. She told me it was mine....

That's good to hear. I'm getting mine pulled in the begining of next year. I was going to not have them pulled, but I chiped one. It started to rot because I can't get the toothbrush back there without jabbing the back of my gums. I figure I may as well have them all pulled. I'm kindda looking forward to it now. What's better than great, legal drugs, that your insurance pays for!?

yeah wait til you have it done, the thread starter's prolly just lit off the percocets and making it sound like it ain't that bad. i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out and it sucked. the first day's not bad cuz you're so drugged up but the next few weeks suck. i lived off soup, spaghetti-o's and PB&J forever and the first time i tried to eat potato chips i stabbed myself in the hole where my tooth once was and felt like crying.

I had all 4 of mine pulled 25 years ago. It was nothing,(either i had a great surgeon or a high tolerance to the procedure:lol:) All I remember was sitting in the chair , falling asleep and waking up in what seemed a half hour later,( never did find out how long I was out.) All of my wisdom teeth were growing practically sideways. I remember going home and going to bed for awhile, then waking up 2 or 3 hours later feeling fine. In fact the surgeon called later that afternoon and was shocked when I answered the phone,( he told me none of his other patients answered the phone when he checked up on them.) I ate a regular dinner that night and went back to a normal routine the next day. I don't even remember what if anything I was given for pain. Back in '82 it cost $125 per tooth for the wisdom teeth extraction, I'd hate to see how much it costs today to do the job.

...and a product of evolution.
When cavemen roamed the Earth, they needed their wisdom teeth to eat. As man has evolved over the centuries we have lost the need for them, and our heads have gotten smaller in the process, thus making less space for these teeth. As a result for many people this facilitates the need for removal before other problems can occur.

:icon16: Yup. For most humans nowadays, our jaws have shortened and no longer have room for the wisdom teeth, so having them removed has become a rite of passage for most - hence the adulthood reference.
No insult intended....

So are we to say that if you still have your wisdom teeth and have no problems you have either
1) not entered " adulthood'' or
2) not evolved  ??

well it's day two, i woke up with a bit of pain, took 3 advil (as directed by the doc) and now i'm fine. i've got tonnes of good soft and liquid food but i think i can eat solid foods now or soon (but i'll still wait). i was worried that i'd have to take the week off of working out but i'm probably going to go to the gym tomorrow or thursday.
i took one percocet last night and didn't really feel anything, i did go to bed about an hour after and didn't feel a thing. maybe i'm just as tolerant to oxycodone as i am to codine.
as for the going out part, i remember the doc started injecting me with some stuff (felt similar to morphine so i'm guessing it was a narcotic anesthetic) then i was given the mask. i started laughing HARD, then i was out. i woke up stoned a few times, felt the guy cutting away at my mouth but didn't feel pain, then went out. i know i woke up at some point and said "are you guys having as much fun as i am haha" then they put me out again lol.
to be honest, i was expecting way worse than i've got. people have told me horror stories about wisdom teeth but advil's keeping me completely pain free. i even had a wisdom tooth and a canine (it was sideways in my jaw under my front 4 teeth) taken out and the canine hurt like fuck. i'm quite happy with this procedure and i've got some spare percocet for a good time if i ever get bored

I had a little pain on the lower jaw where they had to cut them out of the gums, and after 2-3 days it was mostly gone....healing time really is pretty quick on this. 1 week you'll be back to normal. Just watch the Doritos for a couple of weeks. :)

I have 2 or 3 Wisdom teeth fully grown through and not affecting me really. Only one to go and I'll be surprised if I have to have it (or the others) removed.

Had all mine out, and never had any pain relief besides the local they used during the removal. And that also involved smashing one of my teeth into 4 pieces to get it out. Eating 100% normally straight after them also. I always hear these "wisdom tooth horrors" and wonder how you all find these psychotic butcher dentists! lol

It depends on if the wisdom teeth are impacted or not. If they are impacted it means that the roots are hooked around the jaw bone and the dentist needs to cut the gums and break the tooth down at the jaw line to remove them. My husband had his out and it was ugly. The dentist had to remove some of his jaw bone as well. :yikes:

by the way, i don't think percocet does anything to me. i took one about 2hrs ago and i haven't felt buzzed or drowsy or anything. codine doesn't really do anything for me, i think the only narcotic i've taken that gives me any kind of a buzz is morphine (and holy shit was that fun, the one good thing about getting kidney failure lol). oh well, i'll just have to tell the next doc to give me something other than oxycodone or codine.

holy shit i hate percocet. i researched the acceptable doses for acetaminophen and oxycodone (the two active ingredients in percocet) and i decided to take two (which is the equivalent to taking the next higher dose of oxycodone and two tylenol, it's perfectly safe) and it didn't do much, i still had some pain (didn't take advil this time, just wanted to see if these things work) and i had a bit of a buzz, but i've gotten more of a buzz from a cold than these things gave me. the problem is that i'm itchy as fuck. i look like a heroin addict.

Stop taking it. Sounds to me like you are having an allergic reaction. If it isn't doing the job, I would just stay away from it. Try taking ibuprofen (800 mg) instead. Not worth risking a bad allergic reaction if it isn't helping right?

Plus you can alternate taking ibuprofen with acetaminophen. I've taken the ibuprofen at onetime then the acetaminophen 2 hours afterward in an alternating schedule. Make sure you eat something when you use ibuprofen, especially the max quantity as it can eat away at your stomach lining over time. Mixing it with food lessens this chance, or drink a glass of milk with it.

it's not an allergic reaction, it's a common sideffect to all opioids (although it varies from person to person and from drug to drug)
i know i was a bit itchy with morphine, but not that much, codine didn't make me itchy as far as i can remember but it was 6 years ago. my sister (who is also tolerant to codine, like me) was given percs after surgery and remembers being more itchy than codine.
i'm just going to continue with the advil. it does the trick but i just wanted to see if the percs would do anything for the pain for future reference since i know codine does shit all for me.
edit: it's safe to take ibuprofen and acetaminophen (advil and tylenol) together, they don't have any bad interactions together. the only thing is that tylenol is bad for your liver and advil is bad for your kidneys so it's best to limit your use and only use both if needed. i get all kinds of little tidbits of information from my sister, it's great to have a family member in the ER (she's a nurse)

I'm all about my 4 wisdom teeth staying where they belong... IN MY HEAD!
My dentist told me my wisdom teeth could stay in, but he wanted an oral surgeon to remove a piece of gum on top of the one, and both damn surgeons wanted to yank the teeth out instead of cutting the damn gums. Money-grubbing ba5tards!
