I have a 98 Pontiac Trans Spot Montana. There are some major issues with it and I need some help now and fast. The motor keeps over heating and we are not getting any heat inside. So I put a new thermostat in it and nothing. I blead the system but to avail. I took it to a freind of mine garge and they told me there is a blockage and the intake gasket is out. I kind of figuerd that when I seen the water behind the throtal bodie. I am very mechanically in clined but I have never take a V6 intake apart and there isnt much room to play with. I also have been told the motor mounts on the top need to be taken apart so I can pull the motor forward to get to the back valvel cover so the intake can come off. Please if someone has done this and has some good ideas in how to make it happen and if there is any specialty tools that I will be needing to help make it a lot easier on me. Details will help in what you did. The price for the garge to do the work is about 625.00 and I dont have any money to have this done. What a s!!ty time of the year to have this happen.

Definitely blown head gasket. Sorry about that but do not loose time and money on anything else...but this is generally a 1000 to 1500$ job...unless you do it.
THis engine (3.4 and former 3.1) has an history of that sort..my brother ...jsut after I told him to get rid of his 2002 before it happened......had to go for it one month later...
This forum (and montana, venture) is FULL of same stories....just search for blown head gasket.....so, again, sorry.........

If it did have a blown head gasket it would have some oil in the cooling system and some in the oil pan. This has been going on for about a year now. I had a shop take a look at it and they said it isnt the head gasket either. So there is only one other issue and it could be that the crossover ports for the head in the intake could be haveing some issues and also it could be that black pipe that is pluged and not letting any collant through to circulate to the heater core.

A good radiator shop can use a chemical test to find out if exhaust gas is getting into the water. That's a sure sign of a BHG. NAPA sells a test kit for ~$40, IIRC.

the intake gaskets are not that hard to put in but you will have to drop the sub frame down in the front about 3" to get the alternator off and to get to the other stuff that has to come off the back side and watch the fascia as you lower the subframe as if it grabs the fascia it will bust it.i used a haynes manual when i did my intakes and headgaskets in '05 and again in the spring of '07 when the fuelpump had it backfiring and concusioned the sensors and intake gasket on the backside of 3.4. it will take 6 hours to pull it apart and 6 hours to put her back together. the top motormounts can be took off and set aside as the 3.4 isn't going to drop from these coming off. you might need a set of the quick connect tools that disconnects the fuel and heater hoses.and replace the thermastat with one made in the usa as if you put one in made in mexico you will end up putting another one in . the ones made in mexico will not open even when you put them in boiling water.
