strange problem possibly with 96 neon sohc.

While driving down the highway. I step on the gas and I thought I was having transmission problems right away but what is happening is I am loosing power past 1/4 throttle. Only under load does it act up. I tried heat in the gas thinking possibly partial frozen fuel line but that did not seem to help. Also put in some questionable gas of about 5 or so gallons. Any ideas on what it could be would be apprecitated.

Another question. Being this is a 1996 model and my manual says the filter is on the fuel pump. is this correct? Guessing if it is going to have to remove the tank to get to the little bugger.

try the map sensor or the tps sensor. the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump. are there any codes stored?

Code showed a lean condition and when it happens it loses all power past maybe 1/4 throttle when in gear. Really acts like it is starving for fuel past 1/4 throttle.

Found out after backing it up on ramps and taking the splash gaurd off that this 96 and according to all the auto parts stores I have checked on, this uses the same filter as the 1995 Dodge Neon. Even my repair manual shows it being different. Very strange but makes me feel better on replacing that first before I go and do an expensive shop time look over. less than 25 bucks for the filter. Thanks very much though.

anyway, while youre there changing the filter, get rid of the gas in the tank.. only ~20 bucks worth of gas, and put in some good, clean gas...

No. Full tank fresh gas. Car has 138000 miles and probably never changed the filter. I have put on about 15000 on it so far and had to do the usual replace the head gasket and stuff like that but otherwise runs like a top. Got 40 mpg best with it. Running CA40 in the gas and getting at least 10% better mileage than without it.

ic.. sometimes when your fuel line gets shitty gas, just changing the fuel doesnt work too tho..

ive had to help ppl whose cars crapped out on them cuz there was no fuel coming into the engine cuz their injectors got plugged.. that was usually cuz there was crud AFTER the filter, and that got loosened by something but its happened.. if your filter change doesnt do anything maybe you can check the plugs too..
