getting loose

i have a '93 xj 4x2, i don't take it off road. here in little rock there are lots of spots where i get poor traction in the rain. new tires are in the forecast anyway so i thought i'd ask for suggestions, or will it even matter?

If you don't take it off road get a good set of all terrain tires. BFGoodrich, Firestone, Mickey Thompson, all make a good all terrain tire. Or you could get a decent set of mud tires like the Firestone Destination MT, or BFGoodrich mt's something like that so it will give good road performance and also good mud as well.

Tires CAN make a huge difference. If you stick with a good quality tire then you should be better off.

My wife had an XJ before we were married, and put cheap tires on it - she said she spun out several times in wet conditions.

thanks for the info. it is a fairly lightweight vehicle, it has light truck tires on it now. don't really experiment with tires. would anyone say all-terrain is better suited to the xj? or just more reputable manufacturers?

Yes. Absolutely. Tires, manufacturers, tread depth, composition and pattern all play a significant role on performance.

Basically, the harder the rubber compound, the easier it will be to spin them.

Get some good AT's as suggested before... You'll be amazed. Safety First!

i'll go with the AT then, one tire shop salesman told me in this jeep it wouldn't make a difference, i thought that was bulls**it.

You're in the world of XJ's now and I'll tell you one thing if you haven't realized it yet. These vehicles DO have personalities treat them right and take care of them they'll last forever ignore them and they'll be a headache, and they don't like being taken to a mechanic if at all possible they like to be worked on by the owner so they can taste your blood and sweat. lol
