Hi guys!
the other day my 1995 Chevy Z71 with 5.7 V8 wouldn't start and i couldn't hear the fuel pump humming, So i banged on the fuel tank with an hammer and hop back in the cab and presto ..she started :runaround: :runaround: ..but 4 days later , she decide to play the same game again but this time even after banging on my tank 10 or 12 times, she wouldn't start. So i bought a new fuel pump , new fuel filter and a pickup strainer, install them., it only me took 3hours.don't want to this again for a while. Anyhow trying to started my Z71 i couldn't heard the fuel pump and the engine was willing to turn overbut Nothing else. i checked the fuel pump relay, bypass it then i could heard the fuel pump run but still she wouldn't start. i check the spark system and no spark.:disappoin
I need HELP !
THANKS in advance for any input!

Check all fuses in the underhood fuse box. My '98 has a fuse labeled "ECM-1". Your '95 may be different.

Hi,
The connector at the top of the tank is famous for this symptom. It corrodes and burns the contacts. Sometimes the ground wire from the same connector to the frame gets corroded at the frame and doesn't contact properly.

Bob B is right. A very quick test for that is to connect a test light to B+, and probe the fuel pump side of the fuel pump relay. If the test light doesn't come on, there is a problem with the wiring or pump. If it does come on, it doesn't necissarily mean it's good. It could flow enough amps for the light, but not the pump.

like i wrote before , i'm able to get the pump to work when i took the cap of the realy and touch the "clip", then i could hear the pump running but still no sparks, the engine is willing to turn over but no spark...Strange... anybody knows how to test the "ecm" box ? btw the fuse is okay for the ECm...

Check the ignition control module in the distributor mine went out and did the same thing you are describing.

could also be the cap/rotor, if you check the module in the dist, then look at the cap while you have it off.

Hey, If you have no fire and you dont hear your fuel pump when you crank the engine, it is not in the distrib, as it does not control the fuel pump untill it has started and the ecm reads it is. If I were you, check fueses in engine comp and in cab, re-check them as I have seen a person fix the initial problem but blow a fues doing so and never recheck them because every one asumes they are good. Then I am betting you have lost ign b+ to your ecm. most likely a fuseable link. Wires with soft insulation and burn in two when they exceed too many amps. fuel pump also uses oil pressure sensor as a safty. behind dist on block. jump two of the three and it will run constant
