Here's what I'm thinking...

...it's time to move on.
I've been thinking a lot the last couple days and I really need to move on and I need something a little better. I'm talking about the Talon. I think it's time for her to go. As some of you may know, I'm moving out next year of my parents and trying to get a condo. As a result, I won't have money, time, or probably even space (if I don't get a garage) to work on her. She's an endless money pit right now, and as much as I love her so much, I think it's time to call it quits.
So as a result, I'm just browsing around looking for a good DD that will treat me well. I drove all day today in my parents 03 Monte Carlo and I like it alot. It's comfortable, big, roomy, power steering works ;) and all around a decent car. So I may be looking into something like that. Basically, I want some 1996+, less than 50k miles, in great shape and power everything. And completely stock. So what do you guys think? Also looking no more than $5,000. NO CAVYS! Those have been cancelled out long time ago. I'm also trying to stay clear of Civics as I'll be raced all over around here. Want decent power also. Ideas.
Also, how much for the Talon? Ya it's got a gray bumper, 108k miles, and sun damage, but some kids got to want it, right? New trans is a plus, new everything really.
And the new car will be fully in my name with insurance, so that need to be considered also.
This won't happen till Feb, April next year I'm thinking, but time to start thinking.

Yea I know what you mean. It sucks that you want to get rid of it after as much time as you've put into it. I've had the same thoughts myself, but I just decided to keep my Red Rag, and I got the 95 civic to drive. But I've also thought about getting rid of both of them and just getting one car. If I ever got anything else it would be a grandma car. I like the 99ish-04ish Buick Regal GS, GSE's, GSX's. The supercharged 3800, with the Hotchkis package...goh....so skeet. Get a 2-tone one and put like some 18 inch like import style rims on it and black out the windows, then a bangin ass system and some eibach springs...then small engine mods like I/E, supercharger pully, crap like that....wow.
But as far as what you should get...I'm not sure. Hondas last a long time..usually. I like GM products but I would avoid buying a high milage one.

Well the whole point would be to leave it as is stock. No rims, no system, just bone stock. The Monte has a great system stock that kicks ass. Amp, great speakers, and it hits great. It's perfect for what I use it for. Again, just need something to stop the money flow out. So modding would not be an option.
I would still probably get another Talon later on, like once I have time, money, and space for a project. And it would be just that, a project. Something to kick ass in. But that won't be until later.

You can get a DUI on anything with wheels and a motor... I know of a guy that got one on a lawn mower.
In all seriousness, a scooter isnt all that bad of an idea, particularly if you only need to go a short, non-highway distance. As far as a new car goes, whats wrong with the Talon? Just dont want something modded anymore? If it were me getting a new car I woud be looking to step up or into a different class... and IMO a Monte Carlo is a sidestep at best. I've never been a fan of those tubby ass brownie-pounder-mobiles. I dont know what to tell you to get for less than $5000, the only things I would get for that is the older models of my dream cars, which would all be made fast.

The Talon is just too much work to keep up. There's always problems with it with something breaking. Plus I think driving stick has worn me out. I live in Chicago, the home to stop and go driving. It sucks after awhile.
I really like driving the Monte. I'm looking to race or anything in it. It's got good pickup. I just need something decent. I couldn't find one for under $7k. Blah. I think they look pretty ugly myself. I like the SS models. The one my parents got is bare-bone base model. And SS is supercharged.

I been their and done that, you will be happy of what ever you getting next, more power and realiable. To be honest I really dont think about going back to import again, yes american car is gas drinker, but its will out last the import if you take car of it, you dont see cop, taxi or goverment car using import ? I still love and miss all my eclipse and mostly the talon:frown: .
the other day I was reading the thread here about " post pix if you want be on video " or something like that, I was looking at old cd that I storage all my eclipse and talon pix from , after sawing those pix, my tears almost drop :crying: and cant beleive that I drove a AWD Turbo DSM, im so sad that I dont want to post pix :frown: alway remember keep your eye on the road and dont speed to ran thru the light, because I dont listen, it kill my dream and all time I spend of the car it all go thru hell with it.

ive been thinking of getting out of it also. I want to get my own place. I want to have a girl someday, where i dont have to decide if i want to spend money on her or the car, and the car usually wins. I want to do a lot of things that having this car wont let me do. I could get a part time job, or afford to quit my stupid job and look for a better one, so that I could have more vacation days to visit michigan again and whatever else. I was looking at Jetta's. They seem pretty nice, and the 2000's and up have a really nice interior. a 1.8 turbo jetta with some nice wheels and window tint would be perfect for me. But I start driving my car again, feel 20-25 psi of boost, and I start to think of what i can do to keep my car and make everything else still work. I go around in horrible circles lol

That means I have to freeze my ass off and take it off and put the new one on then. Actually probably be worth it as I'd get more total in the end probably. Hmm. Only has 3k miles on it.

Stratus R/T is not a bad looking car and has the 3.0L that the 3g eclipse's have. Not much temptation to mod as it would be pointless lol. I debated looking into one of these awhile ago, but insurance on them isn't much better than an eclipse/talon.

Agreed, once you see someone with a Talon/Eclipse trying to show off in front of others, you're gonna be like, "That kid don't know shit! If I still had my Talon I would.....:banghead: "
Get a DD, and just keep the Talon in storage somewhere:2cents:

I haven't looked into Subarus yet. Started from A, and working my way through the list. Should look at them though. AWD is always a plus.
Caddys are kinda expensive, but V8!! lol. Plus built like a tank. I hit one in my accident and didn't do anything to that car.
BMWs I look through and I like them. Couldn't find any around here (autotrader) with low miles though. Also I may have the urge to mod though. I'll keep looking for more.

I was looking at Alero and Intrigues. My granny had one before the Monte and cracked it up bad. She walked away. Got T-boned really bad by a taxi. I think this weekend I'm going to hit up some smaller dealers around here, or maybe next week IDK and just look around. But there's plenty that are around.
It's pretty much a V6 for sure, unless its a 4cly turbo. And again, looking for something kinda bigger, large 2-door or 4-door. I'm actually excited about this. I'm going to clean up the Talon, get stuff decent like some things that don't work, and make it look pretty.
Would anyone here be interested in the Talon? Just wondering.

My mom had an intrigue. Didn't last very long. Traded it in for a 04 boneville which now has 108k on it. And the boneville just feels wore out when you drive it. The steering is sloppy and it feels like the balljoints are going to poop. The tranny isnt feeling too promising either...wow
I wouldnt buy a high milage GM car. Besides a camaro or GM trucks, the cars just don't seem to last. IMO they're good up until about 100k....I wouldnt expect a mile more then 150k. :2cents:
Now, my brother and sister buy nothing but GM products and have no problems with them at all....but they also don't keep them more than 2 years before they trade for new cars...

Overpay? Nonsense. You just got to know what you doing. I only paid $1500 for my NICE 95 EX with 214K earlier this year then sold it for twice that.....
The 95 DX with 140k (needed work) that I got now....$300....I could sell it for 3 grand in heart beat.
Oh...and my EX was decently quick, lol.
I mean, I love my eclipse and all, but when it comes to DD's...can't beat a Honda.

That means that he will overpay for a used one.
Everyone agrees that civics last long. But thats just about all they do other than drive slow look shitty, get riced out by idiot kids who think they are fast and get driven into telephone polls and trees cause kids think their shit is fast and furious. Unfair reasoning since eclipse's can be put into that category. As much as we all hate riced civics, I would still drive one for a DD cause I really don't care if people lump me into that category, even if it still looked stock. I got over caring about what people thought about me when i was 16.

GM vehicles can last a very long time if taken care of. My 99 Sierra WORK pickup (that means it's been a farm pickup it's whole life) has 256K with the original motor and doesn't burn any oil and still runs and starts like a champ. The only thing that is wore out on it is the seat because of getting in and out 30 times a day. My dad has an 06 with 70k on it with not one trip to the dealer, our 06 suburban has over 70k with regular maintainence and not one single problem, we've had 3 bonnevilles, all over 120k, and the latest (95) with 135k has had nothing done to it but a coil pack, and we've got gm farm pickups with 275k+ that run like, literally, brand new. I can keep going, but I think you get my point.
GM vehicles will last a VERY long time as long as the basic maintainence is taken care of, and anyone that has owned a DSM knows the basics of maintining a vehicle.
In the future when I'll be in the market for new reliable DD vehicles, I'll buy nothing but GM. Sure I'll get that imported sports car for the weekends, but other than that, nothing but GM.

I've experienced the opposite, any GM I've been in (aside from trucks those are good) has been shit after a few years. I wouldnt ever buy anything GM again unless its A) a truck or B) a Camaro. My future vehicles will either be Beemers, Mazdas, Acuras, Mitsu, or Mopars. At the same time, I wouldnt buy a DD that isnt in a "class above" Aleros, Cavys, Civics, etc. Thats just me though, I see no point in buying a car like that again. I am going to want something nice that I can just chill in for a good few years and still have somethind decent to sell afterward. For me after college, its either going to be a BMW 3 series, an Evo, a Mazdaspeed 6 or RX8, a TSX, or a 300C. In all reality, I think its going to come down to the Evo, the Beemer, and the 300c though.
Note: My future car is going to be a good 3-5 years down the line, when I have a car I like to keep it for a while.

So pretty much dave we've narrowed it down to maintenance. Whatever car you go with, you should make sure that its been kept up nicely. Just make sure it hasn't been in any major accidents and you don't notice any glaring leaks and weird noises.

+1.
Thats exactly what I said in my previous post....but even the trucks and camaros have one very very bad link....the transmissions. Those things are soo shitty, let me tell you. The 4L60E is the poopest transmission ever made.
I'm from the south and 95% of my friends are rednecks...im a thugged out redneck myself (u figure it out). Anyways so all my redneck friends have Full size Z71's and 4x4 tahoes, suburbans etc. Most all of theirs are the box body style. And no joke, every freakin one has went through atleast one transmission. Some of the trucks have been through 2 and one has been through 4!
Another example of how poop the trannys are: 2 of my friends both have 95ish z28 camaros. My home boys green one went through 2 4L60E's (then he switched to a built turbo 350 with awesome results). The other one, a burgundy one is on its 4th 4L60E. Whoa. But the factory limited slip rear ends in those cars are pretty damn hardcore, though (the one is the green car just got swapped after finally starting to die, thanks to 180k miles of burnouts).
