Well you would need to get a different tranny, because the bellhousing is different from the 4.0 motor, I think you can get a c4 to fit the 302, maybe get a 302 tranny out of a full size Bronco, or you could look for a 96-01 explorer/moutaineer that is wrecked with good motor and tranny and swap motors that way, those tranny's are perty strong in them. Not sure on gearing of the bronco tranny if the gear linkage is the same or not. I don't know if you currently have a 4X4 or 4X2 but the explorer/mountaineer only come equipped with the 2wd drivetrain and AWD drive train in the 302, but there are two different transfer cases you can switch the AWD transfercase to, there is a 4406 model that is a manual shift on the floor and I believe there is an electronic one so you just have the normal switch to turn the 4X4 on. The AWD isn't too bad its like a 60/40 split rear/front but if your go 4wheeling on steep trails or rock climbing then you would want to switch to a 4X4 transfercase. the plus of that is you can have your 2wheel drive mode to help a little on fuel consumption.

In regards to you swap I have done this swap in a 1991 explorer. You will need an oil pan with a dual sump ie a front and back drain plug. You can find these on crown vics and merc grand marks. You will have to get headers as exhaust manifolds will not fit unless you can find old 289/302 maverick ones. I think I used headman headers for my swap. You can use a AOD transmission as well. If you use this you will need a transdapt adapter to mate it to you tranfer case or you can get a transfer case and transmission out of a bronco. You will need to play with driveshaft lengths as well. You can check all this out on www.therangerstation.com in their tech section there is everything needed to do the swap and where to find it as well. Just find the engine swap section then click the 5.0 swap. This is where i got all my info for my swap. 160000 kms later and it is still going strong.
Best of luck it will take about 75 hours for the swap about 30 for swap 20 for wiring and the rest for fitting exhaust and rad. Oh ya the 4.0 rad works fine I have even pulled a car trailer acrossed Canada to get a car and haul it home about 8000km round trip the only trouble i had was a broken bolt in the starter. Go figure a $2 bolt left me stranded in Calgary Ab. Ten mins. later and off we went again. We done this swap 4 years ago and wish I had done it earlier.
Good luck Greg
