88 Clutch issue

Okay, having clutch problems on 88 Formula V-6.
I have no forward or reverse gears, I have checked shift and select cables, working, clutch cable is working, everything is operating on the transaxle outside as it should be. I can shift into any gear and roll the car and see the axles to both wheels moving. I have been bleeding the system and opened and close the bleeder valve atleast 20 times and it just spits very little air out now, is bleeding something that has to be done more than that or am I looking at a more serious problem? And when bleeding does the resevoir cap stay on or off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
