Rallye Sanremo Diorama

G'day Everybody,

Not quite sure how this fits into the overall theme of the Forum, but here are a few quick pics of a diorama I'm building. The base is ment to represent a typical bit of Italian country road as driven on the Rallye Sanremo. It is kina finished for the moment, could always be more bits and pieces added later. The car is a Peugeot 206 of course, as driven by the brothers Panizzi on the 1999 Rallye Sanremo. There are more pictures of this car (but not the diorama yet) on my website at http://rallycars.topcities.com.

I am also working on a Swedish Rally snow scene. Don't know when that will see the light of day - busy trying to get the NZ 206 finished at the moment.

Phil

:eek2: It looks so real

Great work!!!

But, IMO it would look better if the car was on a slight angle...

Hey RallyRaider,

That looks very clean and very realistic detailed. The wall, streets, light, bushes, short: everyhting. I guess the car is just parked overthere, cause I don't see the drivers sitting.

Anyway, if you're going to add drivers and make an action scene, there's one suggestion I'd like to make and that goes for every diorama be it car, aircraft or armor diorama.
A diorama is to represent a real life situation in scale and therefor the viewer should get an idea of what is happening in the scene. For a racing/rally diorama this means that you should be able to see where the car is coming from and more importantly where it is going to... The base for this diorama is therefor not really suited for an "action scene"... in my humble and honest opinion. But maybe, as I said earlier you didn't meant to make it like that, don't know

Anyway, on my Automotomover (http://users.skynet.be/automotomover/kit%20descriptions.htm) there are 3 diorama's done by a regular visitor. The Subaru one was his first and also a bit to small. The second one, a 206 WRC in the snow!, is already a lot better - read bigger and therefor more realistic.

Sorry for the long reply, but I've got something with diorama's. I know how they should look , but only did one of a Heller 205 Rally car. I know, I know pics will follow... :finger:

Cheers,
Guido

That would be a stunner, but think about the crowd you'd have to build... but as you said, dream diorama...

Thanks thug,

Do you mean on an angle with a with a bit of opposite lock? You're probably right, except there is nobody driving!! :p So it is just ment to be parked there, rather arrogantly, in the middle of the road :silly2:

Thanks Bigfrit,

The railing was cut from a piece of corrugated aluminium. The posts are matchsticks.

Thanks Ales, (I keep going to add an "i" on the end, with your avatar and all!)

Since your Catalunya 2002 diorama is a dream, how about motorising the car, so it goes round and round doing real doughnuts… :D Oh and there could be tiny little smoke generators at each wheel. Or even better real tyre smoke! Probably have to change tyres at regular intervals, so that could get a bit expensive! :hehehe:

I understand what you’re saying Huudo. However I personally don’t want to go building the larger type of diorama you’re talking about. Don’t have the room or the time! The Sanremo diorama was built for an existing car and I didn’t want to pull the seatbelts out and add driver figures. It is a bit unrealistic for the car to be just parked there. But looks a bit more interesting than just sitting in a case or on a bare shelf.

Very impressed with Christopher’s dioramas on your site. Might forget about my Swedish diorama now, since I doubt I’ll be able to match his excellent Monte snow scene! :o I think Christopher is more a diorama than a car man though, check out the rear lights on the 206! And what magic has been worked on that Mitsubishi  how does it float there! He must have edited out the post it is mounted on or something.

Oh and show us your 205 Huudo!! :sun:

;) That's OK, just call me Alex. My screen name has nothing to do with Jean, although I like him a lot (so what if he drives for Mercedes now :p)

And Phil, I wanted to say that I feel like this particular diorama is a perfect setting to take pictures of all sorts of 1/24 models. It's has a rather neutral scenery, so the models will not seem out of place there. I eed to build something like that for myslef (never tried dioramas, and never really wanted to either before now). So once again, good job.
