Head Unit??

So I had to find a new head unit because now that I think im getting the Avalanche instead of the Tundra the oneI wanted wont fit. So I have been looking at the Alpine IVA-D310. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=168550&i=500IVAD310&tp=75
I read reviews on it and it sounds pretty good but I dont know how trustworthy those reviews can be because some of those people are cluless. But does anyone have an opinion on Alpine H\U or anyflaws they have? And does anybody have a head unit with that has that pulse touch system?? And is it realy as big of a deal as they make it?

ohh sexy...lol alpine makes the best indash players the only down size is the 2 volt preamps but aslong as u dont have any ground problems it should work fine.

it's a fold out touch screen. I have always liked alpine head units.

They haven't changed their looks that much in years , but they will always get the job done.

Haha ya but it is a different size then the cars H\U slot. The slot is too big so how hard is it to install one of those pre-fitting things or what ever there called (the things that make the H\U fit properly)?

What is your radio size code for the Avalanche? It sounds like its a size CG, which is an oversized slot that's in between a single din and double din typically found on many GM and Chrysler vehicles. Mine is that size and installing the kit isn't hard at all, probably have to take off the dash trim if its like my Blazer. It puts the radio in the center of the hole and makes the radio stick out a little bit. Many people don't seem to like it cuz it doesn't give the clean factory look.

BTW, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify a GM dash to fit a DD sized radio in your GM truck (sounds like that's holding you back, I dunno). I'm not saying try it out without any research or planning, but don't rule out not being able to put a big monitor in your GM. You can definitely do it to a Blazer and the full size boys can't be that much different.

Oh realy so what would I have to do to make the slot bigger? Just cut out a section and it should fit right? well im gunna go read up on it.

For the Blazer, you have to cut away the extra plastic above the A/C controls and you have to move those A/C controls somwhere. You also have to make your own plastic chassis for the bottom part I believe, but there might be a kit availabe somewhere. I think its definitely worth seeing what custom work is involved on the Avalanche to fit a DD monitor.

The newer alvalanches have DD slots but mine is gunna be a 2002 which is just one year shy of having one. I would rather have the DD size H\U installed but after talking to my dad about it he says the avalanch wont 'officially" be mine so I dont need to go making huge changes to it so he limit me to installing things only but I cant manipulate or change anything in the truck. So I guess im stuck with a smaller H\U size. So what would yall sugest would be a realiable long lasting H\U with touch screen, dvd, direct touch dvd menu option, and everything else that would come in handy that is roughly in the $500-$700 range but preferably lower then 700?

I would just buy a good brand used one from Ebay. That's what I did. Pioneer, Clarion, Alpine, and possibly Panasonic are the only brands I know that offer new receivers around this range that are worth buying.
