ok sorry i know this must be getting annoying with me asking about all of the flaws i can find... but i think this one is pretty serious. i was pulling out of a road, i had the right of way, some idiot speeding decided to try and beat me, i was unfortunately already rolling... i hit the brakes hard and got no response.... kept rolling... only slightly slowed me down:banghead: . so i downshifted and used the e brake and stopped.... bout 4 feet from the guy as he drove by  ... my question is what caused that to happen with my brakes? i checked the fluid about 2 months ago and it was fine, also checked the pads 2 weeks ago and they were fine. dunno if this is related also but over the weekend while refinishing my paint i had to move my car and i pressed down with the car in neutral and the brake pedal wouldnt budge till i gave it some gas and moved it 5 feet or so... then it worked fine, and seems to have ever since till tonight. any insight? sorry in advance for having another trouble related thread.:disappoin

Not really sure, my first guess would be that your master cylinder is going. It can cause some spotty brake trouble. Do you have any brake fade (meaining that when you hold the brake down, does the pedal slowly go down)? Hopefully someone else can give you a better guess?

1) is the pedal flimsy?
2) check for a leak from the MC
3) have you pissed off the misses lately?

lol...
um, well i just checked the fluid level again for safe measure and it all seems fine, as with the part of the pedal getting stiff i guess thats just pressure building up but i seriously never used to notice it at all, like it took longer than 1 pump to get it to rise that high i swear... who knows maybe im just forgetfull. beyond that...
1) cant really tell if it is or isnt, there might be a small ammount of play in it but its not much if there is
2) ill have to check for a leak 2maro
3) lmao... not that i know of

I agree on the Master cylinder. Only real thiiing that makes sense. Especially if the fluid level is ok. Could just be the seals are allowing fluid to backflow.

You shouldn't ever have to be pumping the brake pedal to get it to rise. It sounds like a bad master cylinder, but it almost sounds like there could be either a problem with the brake booster or the vacuum source to the brake booster.
