Steering column lock

Hey there,

This morning, I tried starting the car with no luck as the steering column lock would not turn. Much repositioning did not help. I shot some silicone lube into it, and walked to work, tools in hand. This afternoon it is able to turn, if I get the key in exactly the right spot. Pain in the ass.

Can I take the lock apart to fix it or is it pooched? What about getting a lock from the yard and getting it keyed? Any thoughts? Thanks for any help!

Just re-key the lock you've got. The tumblers, and the key itself wear out and begin to pull this kind of stuff on ya. In all likelihood the lock cylinder and wafer carrier are just fine.
