rear wiper motor

I have a 1999 blazer LT with a little over 150k miles on it. I just replaced the rear wiper motor in it which wasn't too bad of a job, the only problem I have is the wiper now goes from its seated position on the passenger side 180 degrees down off of the window on the other side. It didn't do that before, never went off the window on the other side where there isn't a plastic strip to protect the paint. Any ideas on what the problem is. I'm pretty sure the motor could only go in one way so i don't have it in backwards. I bought it from NAPA. Could it just be a bad motor?? Or is there something I could do to make it not go that far?? Thanks.

You may have to to reset the wiper blade.
Put the motor in park/off position and the set the wiper blade in rest/park position.

I took the wiper arm off and ran the motor for a minute or so, turned the switch off, and put the arm back on in the off position. I turned on the wiper and it still goes all the way off the other side of the window making a 180 degree turn. Before the old motor went, if I had the wiper on low, the wiper would stay on the window the entire time, making a baseball diamond shape on the window. Now when I have it on low, it'll go all the way off the other side of the window, come back and stay on the window, then go off the other side onto the tailgate again, then go all the way back to the off position and start that rotation over again. It goes back to the off position every other time while in low or high. It's weird. Must be a bad motor or something. I got it from Napa. Maybe I'll return it and try somewhere else before my paint wears off on my tailgate.

If it is the type where the wiper motor shaft sticks threw the tailgate it does sound like the wrong or a defective motor.

I called Napa and they said to bring it back to replace it. It's a remanufactured unit so it was probably reassembled wrong. It is the type that sticks through the tailgate. I'm going to take it apart again tomorrow. It takes awhile and I gotta work tonight, I'll let you know tomorrow or the day after if anything happened. Thanks for the help!!

So here's the scoop. I got the motor out today in about 10 mins since I knew how to take everything apart this time. I called Napa to make sure they still had a motor in stock and when I got there, the guy said I was in luck. I guess when they get cores that aren't rebuildable, they end up getting brand new ones from GM. Well, that's what I ended up with and I put it all back together and it works perfectly!! I'm very excited about this happy ending!!! Thanks for the help.

Glad the new motor fixed it.
And mark one up for OEM or new parts.
Always check on them sometimes they are priced cheaper than that rebuilt stuff.
And do work better in most cases.

Things were going very well with the rear wiper motor but when it got down below 0F here in WI the damn thing isn't working again. I took off the panel on the tailgate and turned on the wipers and I can hear the wiper motor running it's normal routine but the wiper isn't moving. I took the wiper arm off thinking that maybe it was stripped out and spinning inside of it but the splines that the arm slides onto aren't moving either. I haven't taken the motor out again yet, but I will soon. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem??

Back to the drawing board.
Remove the motor and check the arm or gears coming out of motor.
A new GM should have a year ot more warranty.

I finally had some time and decent weather to take out the motor. I popped off the cap and the gears were broken. The guy at Napa said it probably happened when trying to turn the wiper on when the blade was frozen in place. Anyways, they gave me a new one, no questions asked, and now I'm back in business again. I swear I can change that motor in less than 10 mins now! I just wanted to keep this updated. I don't like to see threads without solutions.
