Does anyone know how much it will cost to replace? I have a Ford Escort 2001.

Are you talking about the yellow upshift arrow (manual) or are you talking about the lighted shifter on your console (automatic)?

Center console light bulb. The light that iluminates the gearshift selector. My car is automatic.

Well the console would have to be removed and then the bulb replaced. You could expect a minimum of $40 labor + $3 for the bulb. About $43.

So I went to Ford, and they said it would be 150+ to fix! So my the light is still not fixed. Is there anyway that I could do this myself??

learn to shift without the light and without looking at it.. once you click outta park you can feel as you pull down on it the click when you get into the overdrive position. going from park to reverse is only one pull down. on these old cars if you spend money on everything that happens you,ll spend alot of money.

Try another shop. The Ford dealer is apparently charging two hours labor... one to take the console apart and one to put it back together.
Find an alternative shop where they will just give you a flat rate rather than hourly labor. After all, it is just a bulb, not a major repair.
It shouldn't cost more than $60 which is about the average for an hour labor.
