Check Engine Light-Gascap

I have an '03 2500 HD hemi and have had a check engine light on for about the last 30K miles or so . Been able to cancel it on occasion by disconnecting the battery for a bit. Auto Zone put the answer as hoses being bad. Already tried the gascap deal. Dealer wants about $180. to fix this. It has 64K miles on it. OK, two new hoses, a little test pump, 330 bucks out of pocket later, the monster was ready for it,s annual inspection. Passed.
Found out the cracked hose thing is a common problem with Chrysler. I have to give AutoZone credit. And, as an aside, they have a really neat website for repairing your vehicle. Illustrated ipb's and instructions on most repairs. And thanks guys for the input. Happy Holidays.
