Just wondering about replacing 1989 TH400 with 1992 4L80e

I may have the opportunity to acquire a 92 K2500HD with the turbo diesel engine and 4L80e tranny. The body is shot, but the drive train is good. I was told that these diesels weren't computerized yet, so the tranny should have it's own computer. I'm wondering how true that is. And if it is, what would be involved to replace the th400 in my 89 K3500 with 454 and 4.10 gears. I do know that the 4L80e is longer than the th400, but both trucks are 4x4 reg cabs with long box and both have 14 bolt full floater diffs, so the drive shaft will be ok. I like driving the K3500, but it goes through fuel so fast it's like someone poked a very large hole in the fuel tank.

If it is truely an "e", then it is computer controlled. Not sure what the 1st year for the 4L60E is; however, you can still use it, you will need a controller to make it work.

Why not put the good body on the diesel truck? You'll get much better MPG with diesel, plus more power.

I had a big reply typed up this am but for some reason the web site wouldn't load up. No it wasn't the operator as every other site loaded fine. Anyway, in a nutshell:
The k2500 truck is not a sure thing cause the co-worker just bought a three year old D#@$%e truck from another co-worker which was being sold because it couldn't haul a trailer and k2500 truck owner isn't sure if will haul his trailer, so it may be awhile (months) before I can get it.
I plan on starting the body change over in the spring
I'm sure the torque of the 454 will destroy a stock 4L60e
I thought that all 4L80's were 'e's. I'm pretty sure that a 4L80e from a non-computer controlled diesel will have it's own computer/controller.
Anyway, it sounds like more work than expected. Has anyone tried Thorley tri-y headers, as I have some edelbrocks on my 92 305 but I'm not impressed with the cost vs. value.
