so it idles at 1k-1200 rpm in the morning, its cold, but it stays there. every once in a while it will drop down to the 700 range. ?????vehicle is stock and not maintained before i got it that i know of, is it a normal adjustment

Well, that's a bit high for the idle, but it's not too high. It wont cause any serious issues I would think and it'll help your rig to warm up all that much quicker.
