Stalling during traffic stops

Silverado 1500 intermittantly stalls when coming to a stop. The Service Engine light is not registering - mechanic said no codes are being recorded either. Starts up right away. Stalls seem to occur with hard stops. Fuel pump and filter were replaced recently. Any thoughts?

Check fuel pressure. Also check battery & altenator voltages, and check battery connection/terminals for any corrosion.

I have an 02 8.1 that was stalling or going down the road and the engine quit momentarily, probably not a problem on your engine but I changed out my crank sensor and it runs fine now, I did have 80K miles on mine also.

Have you noticed anything at idle?

Have not noticed anything unusual while idling. Vehicle started stalling while in operation today. Could this be due to dirty fuel injectors?

I couldn't say about the injectors, but my first thought was that a throttle body cleaning may help clear it up if it is stumbling at idle.

It is somewhat common for the 5.3L to need it every now and again and costs about $100 at the dealership. Probably worth a shot as a first step. You could probably do it yourself, others could probably advise on the specifics.

listen to rjeffery, sounds like fuel problem, if it was electrical it would throw a ses light. even an injector will throw a code. fuel pumps are common on these trucks, first symptoms are exactly as you are having then slowly gets worse and eventually dies. check fuel pressure and it's probably low. gm fuel pumps are the only way to go...cost more but much better lasting and easier to install.

even aftermarket pumps will cause problems...may not be up to specs....gm pumps have less headaches!!!!!
