Setting the timing.

Hey, does anyone know if I need to bridge out any terminals in the diagnostic plug in order to correctly set my ignition timing? Have just re-built engine. Also by any chance would anyone have the list of the fault codes and the procedures to retrieve them manually via the dash light?
Car is 1990 Toyato 4-Runner VZN130G with 3VZ-E.
