88 Accord vs. 89 mustang

super_man_3179

I have an 88 honda Accord with an upgraded ignition system and K&N filter with a manual transmission. My friend just bought an 89 Ford mustang with the 4cylinder in it and it was an auto. He was trash talking about how he could beat me......So we went to an empty school parking lot around 5PM in May of 2002....We looked all around and saw no people in sight. So we lined up......took one last look around......counted to three and was off......I got him on the jump and stayed about half a car length in front of him and when I hit about 35 mph I heard police sirens so I immediately stopped my car while my friend kept going and put his hand out his windshield as if he won....but then he saw the cops too and he stopped......To make a long story short....we got sited for wreckless driving, got 4 points on our liscenses, and had to pay a $90 fee ($30 court and $60 ticket) ....And my insurance went up $25 more per month.......sucks......but I beat that AMERICAN piece of trash!!!!! HONDA RULES!!!

While I find it funny that someone would be proud of owning a Mustang II, I do think that calling American cars trashy is just plain ignorant.

Actually the mustang II was started around the 1974 model, and ran for a year or so. My first car when I turned sixteen was an 1989 mustang 4cyl auto. It was slow. I regularly got beat by broken down corollas.

Really??? I thought those smaller Mustangs with the four cyls in the 80s were Mustang IIs. I guess I am mistaken.

Nah, its those funky looking mustangs from the mid 70s, when they changed the car from about twice its previous size. The 4cyl 80s mustangs are just slow economy.

An 89 Mustang is not a Mustang II.

An 89 Mustang is a FOX bodied car. And the 4cyl is NOTHING to be proud of... really. UNless it was the SVO Turbo (which this one was NOT).

WHAT!!! quarter mile in 13.5 OH!!!! My integra does quarter mile in 13.28 sec to be exact...HOCAKE camaro aint shit...NOT to mention I can outdrive your gas gobbling 8 cylider anyday. With 255 HP and 216 ft-lbs. Torque at THE WHEELS!!! on 8 psi.....Your car will never see 200,000 miles as many hondas ALL do.....and then some...PIECE OF SHIT CAMARO!!!!!!

I guarantee you that my car will see 200k miles, there will be no doubt about that. Where's your proof to back up your claims on your car newbie? I've got my timeslips and my dyno printout sitting right next to me, ready to be photographed and uploaded if needed. Where's your proof internet racer? You can make all the claims you want, kinda like those 2f2f cars in the July issue of Sport Compact Car. Claiming something means absolutely dick until you can prove it. STFU noob:flipa:

The mustang II was made from 74-78. And the 77-78 were the best. They made whats called the King Cobra, Boss 302(Not a true Boss 302 like in 69-70 but still good for it's time) engine with a Huge ass snake on the hood. They also made a Cobra II with a less potent 5.0L.

Owning a mustang II is no funnier than owning a Lebaron we both live in Utah I wouldn't mind running against you in my II. Ford only put the 302 from 75-78 and the v8's all had the same amount of hp 139 even the king cobra's and the regular cobras were the same only difference between the cars was that the king had a huge decal of a snake and it had a huge air dam on the fron of the car but the engines were all the same.
2.3L Four-Cylinder 92hp @ 5,000rpm
2.8L V-6 103hp @ 4,400rpm
5.0L V-8 139hp @ 4,000rpm

course my 302 isn't near stock.

Yeah those mustangs are sweet. Why does everybody hate them??? Way better than those 80's Fox mustangs. My dad had a 78 King cobra and a 77 cobra II. Both black=awsome. I want one. I've seen one with a 429 shoe-horned into it with a blower stickin out the hood. I would be proud to drive a Mustang II.

Most probably don't like them just because they were a little different. Those differences are probably why you like them. It's just like with any other car. Everyone's got opinions on what looks good, apples or oranges...

Ah, the beauty of racing a Honda.... You have time to notice when you've hit 35 mph in a race unlike V8 powered American muscle that blasts by 35 so quickly you miss the moment. Ah, treasured moments..

because we have those short gear ratios that domestic racers would kill for, and 35 happens to be one of my shift points.:p

Oh, sorry. Since you're racing a Honda I expected you'd have a 5" monster tach on your dash with a shift light big enough to blind those behind you in traffic or even yourself if the glare hit the Mr-T-gold-chain-starter-kit you're surely wearing. It's quite amusing when I hear 2 hondas going at it from the next intersection. It sounds like 2 F1 cars launching and rocketing through the gears, but then there is the awkward toe-tapping wait for the cars that sound as if they should have blown by long ago. Suddenly they appear, sounding like a swarm of bees on crack, but barely outpacing a parade cadence. Your expecting to have to lock-your-eyes-on to the action as it blows by only to be disappointed by two former econoboxes going by so slowly you're embarrassed for them.
BTW-I have 6-gears spaced just fine, thank you!:D

PWMAN
06-06-2003, 08:52 PM
That was funny. Yeah I have seen those 5'' tachs with the huge shift light on a lot of ricers.

95civicman
06-06-2003, 08:59 PM
no i have a stock tach and no shift light and i believe is was the rednecks that liked mr t, and since we are all stereotyping here i guess that would classify you as a redneck therefore you make the reference to mr t, instead on the typical uncels ben, or rice burner said from more higher class yanktanks(credit to whoever said ir first), so you can now just go along driving your iroc z and don't forget to trim up your 'so-low' before you go pick up yor sister for your 2nd date. since that's what rednecks look like and do, well the stereotypical way.:finger:

p.s. gold is outdated, i prefer platinum :D and i might be goin down to miami here in a few weeks to pick up something and i could be runnin through TB. care to put up or shut up about how hondas are slow if i go down there???

Ahh not true My first car was an 86 SVO mustang. It had a turbocharged 4cyl. It was quite fast, However 2months before I turned 16 my mother rode with me in the car and decided that it was a poor choice for a first car, ( me and my dad told her it was a 4cyl it would not be fast at all, he wouldn't get into trouble with a 4cyl mustang), so she and my dad argued and they sold my car. Looking back on it I could kill them b/c she did not under stand how rare the car would become.:(

P.S why does everybody have to argue over domestic vs import? I really cannot see the point in it. It accomplishes absolutely nothing, why not have respect for the other car and try to learn from one another? Atrue car enthusist lkes all fast cars and does not bash domestics or imports, that is just being GAY!!!

hey everybody.. this thread's gotten.. a little off track.. NEwayze. I have to say that a well-tuned gen3 accord is decently fast. I mean, of course you can't expect it to beat an eclipse, but I HAVE beaten my brother's 92 Integra GS with my GSX:bigthumb: which is not too bad. Not sure to this day weither it's just me or my car that drives well.. take into account that the motor has only put on about 1500 miles since being rebuilt, whereas my brother's integra has many more miles than that... Sucks tho.. that no matter my car being faster, his always gets more looks.. well. until they hear me screaming by.. (and that's just the intake sound, no exhaust present).. NEwayze. I would like to hear more stories of Gen3 victories.. because.. I guess it's a pretty rare occurence.

I used to hate American cars, then I saw I was just being sterotypical.
I still don't like american cars, but... for some, now I got some respect for unlike how I was before just saying they sucked ass or something.
I would like american cars but in general I just like japanese cars more because I think their styling is better (just my opinion), and the cars are much better tunned, (handling and engine wise), they also generally tend to be more reliable.
