is there a way to get the code with out having a code reader? van stopped yesterday and won't start today. it will crank as long as i keep the battery charged but it won't fire. :banghead: new spark plugs, wires, cap last winter. oil change last week along with new "s" belt. the engine light came on a couple of days ago according to my wife. was going to take it to have it read today and it would not start. any suggestions are more than welcome

Has your van ever had a new fuel pump yet? It is about due....Check fuel pressure with key on- needs to be near 60 psi-- can you hear it running for 2 seconds when you turn the key to "RUN" try banging on the fuel tank if not- it may come on-- and start-- then you'll know what you need to do if it does...........Engine code would not stall the engine- most likely unrelated to the no start problem..

No, a scan tool or code reader is the only way to retrieve DTC's on an OBDII equipped vehicle, (1996 and newer).

Try squirting a little carb cleaner in the air intake and see if it will start. If it does, you have a fuel problem. Post your results and we'll help you diagnose the problem.

sorry it has taken me this long to reply but i couldn't get logged back in. it ended up being a distributor cap and rotor. put the new ones on and it fired right up and has been running fine since. thank you for your suggestions:)
