solid tensioner?

OK i was going to buy the timing components, and i was wondering if the BLE solid tensioner would be better then the hydraulic tensioner?

Interesting... I have never seen anyone use this kind of tensioner. I have heard of people going to the mechanical tensioner but not something like this. When I build my motor im going to stick with the hydrolic tensioner. Its been proven to work and hold up.

Looks cheap for that price. A hunk of metal with holes punched and a bolt n nut..wow :/ Looks highly unreliable.

That doesnt look like a good idea. What happens when the belt strethes over time? I guess you have to keep tightening up that bolt...thats boo boo. I'd stick with the hydraulic tensioner so it will keep tension on the belt when it strethes.

Not to mention with heavy pressures and vibrations it can cause the nut and bolt to loosen over time. Might end up costing you a head job :/ 97.00 isnt worth 3 - 400 in repairs later.

Not to mention a new hydrolic tensioner is cheaper than that bolt contraption. Is there any reason why you dont want to use the hydrolic tensioner??

Hello... Have you people never heard of loctite? The bolt won't rattle loose and it can't fail like a hydraulic tensioner... Of course that isn't saying it is any better than a regular one... :2cents:

I think your motor is more prone to crankwalk then failing from a broken hydrolic tensioner. The only possibility is if it was super old and you didn't replace it with the rebuild.

I've never heard of a hydraulic tensioner failing. I've replaced mine a few times though so I ain't worried about it.

A solid tensioner would be for a drag only car. The timing belts stretch and that slack is taken up by the hydraulic tensioner push-rod.

That is what i thought.. but i did not know what to do about the belt stretch. hydraulic is how i will go then thanks guys.

Hydraulic tensioners can fail and cost a race car owner a shitload of cash. I can only imagine that very heavy valve springs and serious cams ("square" lobed) put a ridiculous amount of stress on the hydraulic tensioner. People in those cases might find a use for one of these, but naturally they don't drive the car daily and the tbelt probably gets replaced more often than the oil. :D
