Couple problems with a 02 GP

I am helping my friend with his 2002 pontiac Grand Prix with the 3800 motor in it. The first problem I am having is that blower motor only works on high position. But when you put blower on high it turns the day time running light off. The thing that is not working is the head up display. Any ideas would be great.

You could be having one of several problems.

The blower resistor is a common issue that causes the loss of low speeds. It is located in the heater box under the dash next to the blower motor itself. Another issue is water intrusion from a bad cowl seal under the hood on the passenger side. Water gets in the heater box and shorts out the resistor. If there is water, the resistor will still need to be changed, but this is a case of treating the disease (the water intrusion) rather than the symptom (shorted resistor).

With your other issues (HUD and DRL's), you could be experiencing the first symptoms of a bad ignition harness assembly. The contacts start to arch and will cause many electrical gremlins to crop up. What does the resistor usally cost?? Can I get the ignition harness assembly and a local auto parts store or do I have to go to a dealer?

The resistor should be less than $25. The switch/harness is AC-Delco, and should be available without going to a dealer. I also edited my original post and included the links to the repair proceedures for the ignition switch and HUD for you.

X2 on the A/C Delco part. I just changed mine out last month. I purchased the resister from rockauto.com for about 26.79, 31.00 shipped. I couldn't find a parts store with an A/C Delco blower resister in this area and the dealership wanted 60.00.

Updates: I replaced the blower resister and that did not fix the problem. But I think it needed to be replaced anyway. Any Ideas??
The instuctions on getting ignition harness off worked great. Tonight I will be installing the new one.
