I own a 88 civic dx hatch. I desperatly want to use the Apex N1 2.5" universal canister with custom piping. Heres the problem: The place that will be doing the pipework (mandrel bent) says that i cannot run 2.5 over the rear crossmember because they say it just wont fit. He said I can run 2 1/4 the whole way or run 2.5 from the cat back to the crossmember and run 2 1/4 just over the crossmember. I am going to be running the exhaust on the stock engine for a while untill i swap a b16a gen 1. The exhaust will be exiting out the passenger side, not the stock position. Will the N1 even fit? Also, I want the muffler to be tilted up and kicked to the side. Can i do this by going over the crossmember? Can I go under the crossmember or is that too risky for a daily driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am getting the setup very soon. Whats the Best Set-up?

you only really need 2 1/4 piping...even when you get a b16. Only need to go bigger if you are going turbo.

The right shop can run 2.5 all the way back without clearance problems (I've done it before). I would suggest though that you run 2 1/4" pipe from the cat-back and i suggest putting in a glasspack as a resonator or else you'll be heard from a mile away. You can run the pipe over or under the REAR LCA (it's not a crossmember) I always prefer to run it over the LCA though.

2.5" is overkill on a na motor..........you still need some back pressure.....my cousin has a 2.5" cat back full mandrel bends on his totalled si (for sale) and that thing is loud....his runs over the rear lower control arm...I don't know about the glass pack thing.....just run a cat that should help....oh wait.....you guys have to run one......damn emission test......we don't have those here......whats a cat??

u live in the u.s. so you have to have one....."cat" is short for catilytic converter <~~~now quite sure how it is spelled hehe......im borderline illiterate

wrong. its not the backpressure you need, its the usable power band. backpressure = bad. when people say you need backpressure its because having too much of a good thing (too big of exhaust) will make the exhaust gases have less velocity which makes them scavenge not as well.
Also, when people say you lose torque with too much flow, they are wrong. you do not lose the horsepower it simply moves up in teh powerband. basically, what you are doing by having too large of exhaust is tuning an engine to make power in too high rpm for that engine to even rev. basically, unusable power.
backpressure is still bad. oh, and btw, i have 2.5 inch catback on my car BUT it is crush bent so that helps with the bends restricting airflow. I had the shop run it over my LCA and it never hits.

I know what a catalytic converter is.........but here in middle wisconsin there is no such thing as emission tests or vehicle inspections (not unless your car is an absolute p.o.s and they want it off the street like my festiva) I got a ticket with my festiva and the cop wrote " safety hazard, health hazard, road hazard" pulled my registration.....HAHA.....anyway.....we either pull our cats here or hollow them out empty.......and 91civicdxdude.....thanks for the correction either way too big makes it unusable which makes it worthless right??? or no.......cuz if Its good I'll but my cousins shit on my ride......I have 2" mandrell bends now...
