I have a 96 S-10 Blazer, automatic. I am feeling very much that i'm not getting the power that i'm supposed to from it. I get decent movement from 1 to 2nd, but it seems that from that point it shifts to higher gear and it wont drop back down when i need it, unless i floor the pedal. when i hit a big hill it stays in a high gear and i cant get much pull. The shifting feels like when you have a manual trans and your easing in the clutch. i know its not natural, but i dont know what to do. can anyone help?

How long since you've changed the transmission fluid AND filter?

Also keep in mind that a engine has to be runnning good for the transmission to work good.

i cant say for sure because i've only had it for a few months, but the fluid is still red, and when i took it to the mechanic the diagnotic showed no codes.

I would find a good repair shop with a good scanner.
How is the engine running end or tune up?

Check for vacuum leak also. Mine was similar, plus surging at cruise. Found the 7/16 in vac line split. Has much more zip now.

where would i find it?
MT-2500 - it was tuned up when i bought it, and the mechanic i took it to didnt find anything wrong related to the engine or trans.

On mine, which is the vin Z motor, there is a vacuum nipple on the top of the intake manifold, with a rubber line that goes toward the firewall. All looked ok at first, but when I yanked on the line, it separated waaaay too easy from the nipple. The hose was deteriorated from the engine heat and cracked right at the nipple. You may be able to just cut off the end and reattach, but a new hose is like 4 bucks for a 6 foot length, so I replaced the whole thing. I had problems with lack of power and surging, sluggish acceleration above 2nd gear. All is fine now. I had myself convinced it was a tranny problem too. The rpm would vary, like the tc was locking, unlocking repeatedly. That was the lean mixture surge caused by the vacuum leak.
