odometer repair

Just wondering if anyone has any experience repairing odometers that have stopped turning?
I had a front end accident this summer, and just got my '97 ranger back on the road, but now my odometer doesn't turn over. The speedometer works fine. I've been told that there is a tab inside that may have broken off....can it be fixed or replaced?
