My trip to Mexico and cars there

I just got back from Puerto Vallarta and week of fun and sun. Noticed a lot of small cars there and one very popular one is called Chevy Comfort and looks just like a GEO Metro. 5 speed stick shift but not sure if engine is 3 or 4 cylinders. Tried asking taxi drivers but they just drove them and didn't know much about them. Cars looked like newer cars.
I can't find any info on the internet about them. Probably couldn't buy one and bring into USA because of emissions. They are almost exactly like the 1995 2001 Metro shape wise. Anyone else ever see them or have info on them?

Emissions, or crash tests most likely.
Keep researching, I'm interested!

I think the american auto industry has it's head in the sand! Why does every European country have so many more options for fuel efficiant small cars? Why are we bombarded with TV ads for monster pick-up's all the time?
What happened with GM's EV-1 electric car anyway.. THAT was a bad decision on their part! Our Metro's beat out even the overpriced Hybrids in fuel efficiancy for cryin' out loud! No wonder the "big three" are losing money. It's up to us to keep our Metro's .. we're not going to get any innovation outa Detroit for the forseeable future. Ahh well .. I'll switch to decaf for the rest of the day (really) It's just a peve of mine .. Oil crisis? War over oil .. come on guys .. If everybody drove a Metro (or similar) we'd all be better off (I think anyway) DangerDude (looking for a second Metro)

"Why are we bombarded with TV ads for monster pick-up's all the time?"
Trucks/SUVs make them money. Small cars like our Geos are not what they would prefer to build/sell so they push the segment they prefer, all the while saying that 'nobody would buy' something like a Geo.
If they don't offer them, how do they know? Seems like circular logic to me.
Ford is advertising their Focus as achieving 35 MPG, which it has, BTW, been doing for the last 8 years. No interest in improving anything @ Ford, it seems...

I'm gonna venture to guess that you saw a "Chevrolet Chevy C2", a.k.a. Opal Corsa, a.k.a. numerous other models depending on your current country of choice =)
The word "Comfort" is a trim level, like the Lincoln Town Car had the Executive, Signature, and Cartier trims.
Here's a Chevy C2 Comfort example:

And here's more info on the various models:

And finally.. check out this sexy thing:

<sigh>
A Geo with a 75 hp / 125 tq. @1750 rpm (1.3 CDTI) would just be too sweet...
41 CTY / 62 HWY / 52 COMB. (U.S. Gal)
Fuel is still to cheap to force the issue. Amazing...

I believe this is the car you saw. A co-worker has one as well. It's nice and compact. The 2 door model reminds me of the Chevy "Chevette". The picture below is the 4 door.
