Long wait for radio to turn on.

The radio in my 93 Honda Accord will only come on after the car has been up and running for anywhere from 10 min to a half hour. The fuse under the hood is good (it doesn't appear to be loose). I don't want to replace the radio and have the same problem. Taking it in for service on this would probably be too expensive. Anyone see this problem before?

How good is your battery? I had this problem on another car and it was because the battery/alt took that long before it could get power to actually power the radio.

I have seen electronics with a bad circuit board act similar...

If you pull it out of the dash but leave it connected, and check for power and ground, if both are present the unit is probably on it's way out...

Does it ever break up when you hit a bump or anything?

It doesn't break up when I the car bumps. As soon as it comes on it's good to go until I turn the car off, then it's the same process. To be honest I'm pretty clueless when it comes to electronics. Would I check the ground and power wire with a volt meter?

The battery is brand new. I don't seem to have any other. problems with any of the other electronics in the car. Do you think it could be a problem with the
battery connection?

Yeah voltmeter or test light.

When you say it takes 10 minutes to come on, does that mean sound or lights. If it is sound, the radio is probably shot. A newer/better radio can be had for $100 and that include a CD player that will play MP3/WMA and has a audio input connector so you can plug in your IPOD. Electrical connection adapter and plastic holder adapter will cost another $40.
