im doing the 6 bolt swap out of a 92 talon tsi awd into a 96 talon tsi awd. i saw the write up on it but ive seen other write ups as well. some people say use the oil pump the 2g head, and intake mani. my concern is the cam and crank posistion sensors. another is the motor mounts lining up. the mounts dont look to line up on first glance. is there anyone that has physically done this swap. not heard of, not read on. i need someone that has actually done this.

Are you kidding me dude? Look around, just about every 2g and its mom has a 6 bolt swap in it. Search around and you will find answers, this topic has been covered well. Also, please use the subforums.

I did... Check out my project thread for info on the adjustments that you need to make to plastic covers for the motor mounts and such... They line up. A 1g puts the rear motor mount on the back of the block, while the 2g puts it on the back of the transmission. You will be using the 2g transmission with the swap, so you don't need to have a motor mount on the back of the block, only the transmission... The cam and crank angle sensor re-wire job is quite simple. Or, you could buy a pre-made harness adapter from Road Race Engineering... Just so ya know, they never check orders from their website. You have to call and order it to get it. I would just use the 1g head, intake manifold and everything... They 6 bolt motor is superior to the 7 bolt in everything on it... (Except for the throttle body elbow which is larger on a 2g.)

yea but the throttle body itself is best to get from a 1g nt

i obviously searched before i posted. there were two conflicting threads. one said to change the oil pump and all this other shit and the other said what my mans said up above which was to just use the tranny and mod the mounts. so i was looking for feedback on those who have physically done it. no need in unbolting all this crap if i dont have to. feel me

There is two ways to do it and to be honest with ya bro, I dont think either are going to be especially fun. I dont know the differences and frankly dont care to (my 1g comes with a 6 bolt :)) but IIRC one was pioneered by RRE and one was done by someone else. I think we've got a thread in our Tech Article section on how to do it one of the ways and I am sure you can find one if not both ways by looking in dsmtuners.com's tech article section. Also, SBR is now selling a 6 bolt swap kit if that entices you at all. If you dont like dealing with SBR then I bet you can find one from extremepsi, Mach V, Forced Performance, and probably one for 3x what its worth from Buschur.

Here is the 6 bolt swap Tech Article that Thor was talking about...
6 Bolt Swap into a 2g (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=632286)
I don't remember what all it says about it in the article, but I do know that I used a 1g oil pump and housing on my 6 bolt when I did my swap. I don't even think the 2g pump and housing will line up properly to the 6 bolt. But I could be wrong there...
You don't have to do any mods to the motor mounts at all. You are using your 2g tranny and just use the stock motor mount positions that the tranny uses. On the motor itself, (6 bolt one) you just use the driver side motor mount. You can disregard the stock 1g motor mounts on the back of the block.
Hope that helps ya out some more in clarifying things.

That is the one thing I remember about 6 bolt swaps from wayyyyyy back in the day when I wanted a 2g before I realized how gay they are ;). Thats one of the differences in the two ways I was talking about, one you use the 1g and the other you have to drill new holes in the pump housing to get 'er to work. That way FTL IMO... I would never trust it.
