Federal Gas Tax Fuels Ticket Quotas Nationwide (http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/21/2106.asp)

Gist of the article: Our gas tax money is going to be used to fund a contest in which police departments write a bunch of tickets. Those with the most tickets written get a new Charger persuit vehicle.

Some interesting points from the article:

Caledonia, Vermont sheriff's office "hands out packages of mini donuts to motorists" who wear seatbelts when approaching a ticketing roadblock
Interesting. They seem to be handing out their own choosen supply of foodstuffs in order to bribe their intended prey.

Arizona state police became "certified" in the use of force to draw blood from motorists suspected of DUI on the side of the road.

Ah yes, the good old fashion "beat it with nightsticks till it bleeds" approach. Almost as effective as the "kill it with fire" approach.

On "Maroon Day" every single member of the Minnesota State Patrol, regardless of rank or duty, is required to issue traffic tickets.
And on this day, I will go to Minnesota and rob every bank. They will be far to busy writting tickets to worry about a bank robber going the speed limit.

San Carlos, California sets up the neighborhood "pace car" program where citizen participants pledge to block any traffic attempting to drive over the speed limit.
Do we get on the ESPN or SpeedTV Highlight reel if we get up underneath 'em and put 'em into the wall?

Sixty-five Washington DC area agencies won for the "Smooth Operator" ticketing blitz.
I got a lap dance to this song. I still think I'm in love with her. I shit you not, her costume was a police officer set up.

Burlington, Vermont handed citizens radar guns so they can issue warning notices to their neighbors.
Just when you thought being a hall moniter rat in high school had no pay off. I would use these to scare the shit out of my neighbors with radar detectors!

Fort Campbell, Kentucky police officers receive commander coins for making "an extra effort in enforcement." The coin can be turned in for a free day off.
I honestly have no pithy comment for this one at all. This one is just downright wrong, and its scary to think your ticket could be a false set up just so some cop can take an extra doughnut day.

In closing...I believe I will be ordering my FTC tee shirt now.

The Maroon Day pisses me off the most I think, though its not exactly like the others are so much better. You are required to give a ticket. First of all, that means all the cops are gonna be parked looking for speeders while murderers and robbers run rampant. Second of all, what if the cop can't find someone doing something ticket worthy? Does he lie because its a requirement.

Utter Bullshit.

Cops don't admit it, but each month they are required to fill a quota. From what I hear, if they don't meet that quota, they don't get their full pay. Something a law enforcement teacher once told me.

They literally have to look for every chance or opportunity to hand out tickets. I call it injustice. They call it the law. I don't know. Cops do what they have to do nowadays. Even if you are a good, or even a great driver, you're still going to be paranoid while driving.

I even see a cop nowadays pull behind me, I signal into the nearest gas station, Wal-Mart, or whatever until I can drive back out and go home safetly.

cops do have a quota to fill each month. whether it effects their pay or not i dont know.

i dont get followed by cops unless i've really done something wrong, they tend to leave me alone...i really dont know y tho. better things to do...like get their already obese asses to dunkin donuts or the pizza shop in the next town over

Cops only follow me when Im in the jetta, I think they have that liscense plate flagged since its the same one I had in the celica when the cop lied on the ticket and in court in order to get me convicted of a false reckless driving.

Sold the Honda, cops are a non-issue...

In the downtown area, the blocks are small and there are no turns on red nor can you block the intersections so you have to close the gaps. Unfortunately, there are fucktards that will not do this. Tailgating is bad but even the cops will do it to get the cars through the downtown area so... There is this one left turning lane where I always hop the median to actually get in the turning lane. Cops see me do this every day almost and don't care. I did it this morning. I go 10-15 over the limit through this seedy section in town to get from the downtown area to where I live on the outskirts of town and the cops don't ever care. Matter of fact, I passed by a cop doing about 45mph right through where the hookers and crackheads stand on the corner and I believe that cop was going even faster the other direction  Now, if you try this shit on the freeway or in the business district you best be on the lookout...

^Sounds like Detroit. When my dad was a cop in Detroit (early 80s) he said there were parts of town where they told the police not to go. His Captain said "listen, I aint gonna risk it. Do not go to these parts of town. Not even our SWAT team will go after you. You go in, your on your own."

It's funny because right in that section at the traffic light there used to sit a crossing guard in a Ford Exploder (but I haven't seen her for some time now) I guess for kids walking to/from the school a couple blocks from the light. But one day there was a cop sitting there instead. He looked pretty scared and we have not seen a cop sitting there again.

If I had to guess I would say thats all just some bullshit someone came up with to get a rise out of people. As fucked up as society is getting it could be possible but I bet not...

Well atleast if we commit other crimes we will be more likely to get away with it, if we drive safely. Man, I love america.

In closing...I believe I will be ordering my FTC tee shirt now.

I actually ordered one just before I logged in lol.

It's against the law for California Highway Patrol to set quotas for their officers to meet. I'm sure it's the same for other local agencies but I can only 100% confirm the CHP one.

Thats the thing. There is no quotas, its just "whoever gets the most".

I witnessed a cop blow a red light that was red for a good 4 seconds coming home from work tonight. I was going 45 in a 40, and he passed me at roughly 60. No lights on or anything, just casually cruising. They do what they want around here, but when you do the SLIGHTEST thing wrong, they gank you.

Now if they put in one of these, its every man for himself. Im going to bank into somebody's yard if i see a cop now.

i got pulled last week for my tail light being out...i told him i just bought the bulbs and was on my home to replace em...asshole comes back with 1) a ticket 2) shoulda fixed em the parking lot.

i'm going to court against his attitude, replace em in the parking lot of advanced auto, i'm sorry i don't carry the proper tools around in the back of my car to replace lights on the go. i have tools for the f'n tires and for now thats it. he can go f himself. i ain't paying 45 bucks for his bs. i even kept the reciept showing what time i bought em, bout 3mins earlier.

cops think they r great. yea my neighbor is awsome, but other cops in my area are not just retarded but well, wankers

wow. I would shoot that fucker for doing something like that. he must have been desperate for a ticket... Who carries around tools to change a damn bulb in a tail light? ask him if he did. If he says no, slap him in the face and run.

the town is called washington township, nj. the cops there are rediculus. the town has a serious problem with ricers, and i did at one time do that kind of stuff. and some cops know me, know what i've done. but evidentally driving a porsche means i'm a ricer.

the cops just an idiot, my guess a rookie, i've never seen him, and my neighbor said he'd never really dealt with him, and they're on the same department. it'll be interesting

First off, good job pulling this bitch back from the dead rookie!

Second, I hate cops, FUCKING HATE THEM! to hell with all those straight arrow pussies around here who say "there just doing thier job". thier job is to observe and maintain law and order, not to use the law as a fear-key and go around flexing thier proverbial muscle.
if a cop sees a broken tail lamp his duty is to inform you (serve and protect) not to give you a ticket. a repet offender is the one that gets the ticket, i.e. one who is not abiding to the maintained order.

eh we shoulda noticed it earlier.

i can understand a rookie going by the books, which now tell an officer to pull over and issue a ticket for almost everything. i think the exceptions are a broken brakelight during the day or not using a blinker in a right/left turn only lane...i've gotten pulled for that one too.

my record is amazing, i've gotten pulled over for a 46 in a 45. i was on some back road the last guy in line(all the others pulling away from me), and i was driving a shity shiny(no offense here) dodge neon 4dr, with a whole 132hp. SHE even had the nerve to say, in response to my asking "why me", u were the last in line and a young male...that went over well in court.

MZR_47
08-31-2008, 12:06 AM
wow... she actually said that in court? how stupid can you get? admiting to steryotyping isnt exactly a good legal plan.

no it was recorded on her microphone and on video from her cruiser. i knew all nj police cruisers have the video camera and microphone, and asked her to produce the vid from that day and go to the pull over time. when it was put to the time slot, it's wat played. i smiled and told the judge, that's my defense...judge let me outta everything, she was suspended, and seriously if it were leagle to film in court, it would b a hit on youtube, hell maybe even the news.

priceless.

she didnt cry, she just left her badge on the judge's desk, and i guess went to do paperwork. my neighbor said she's back patroling and is much more controlled about what she says

Well, why would you say you know it's out, lol. If you go to court the Judge will tell you the same thing, only making a fool out of yourself.

vectorspecialist
09-01-2008, 11:19 PM
not really. it wont make much of a difference. basically by stating i knew it was out and that i was going home to replace the bulb with the one's i had just bought the cop should have not given a ticket to me.

ur saying to urself, well it was still out. yes, it was, but either way u look at it, i woulda gotten the ticket, but by stating i know it is and i'm fixing it, he shoulda either 1) just checked to c if my paperwork is leagle 2) at most give a warning

and thanks for the sig comment. i wanted something creative, then relized other than drawing, i'm not really creative, so i decided to state the obvious
