blower

hi all well my problem is when i turn on the heater or ac I can hear the blower motor running but it does not blow out the heater vent on the floor or out the side vents it will blow a little out the defrost and the middle vent so what do you all think michael its a 1993 t-brid

Welcome to the forum, Michael. A few things could have happened. There are doors inside of the heater box that direct the air in various directions depending on how you set the dial on the dash. These doors are opened and closed by a vacuum motor. You could have a vacuum leak in one of the hoses going to the motors, a bad motor, a stuck door or a blockage such a a mouse nest inside the heater box. I can only speak about a '97 but I would think a '93 should be the same setup. You didn't say if you can feel the air coming from different locations when you change the control position and I don't know if you have a semi-automatic climate control or a manual A/C-Heater system. The three vacuum motors are small canisters with a vacuum line on one end and the other end has a rod that conects to the door lever. One door controls the defroster and panel vents, another door controls the floor vents. These motors and doors are on the drivers end of the heater box. Another door in the middle controls the A/C or heater air flow direction and the one near the blower controls outside air or recirculating air choise.

thanks I thought about the doors. I replaced the blower motor awhile back and i read a post that said the his blower motor was running backwards. the blower motor i replaced it with was not out of a t-bird i also had to replace the blower fan (cage) mine broke checking the motor. i can hear the fan blowing and feel air around it were it mounts. I thinf the fan is turning in the wrong direction. I replaced the climate control panel also thought about a mouse nest. I just dread pulling the heater box out its a tight fit thought about using a air hose and blowing it thru the heater core and see if any thing blows out the vents. but if i have a vacume leak wount it show up in the engine rpm or a vacume gage?

If the fan is turning in the right direction and you have checked the doors to see if they are all operating (by seeing if the levers that are attached to the vacuum motors move when moving the control knobs on the dash) then I would try probing inside the heater box with a piece of wire inserted into the housing where the blower motor attaches to see if you can feel anything inside blocking the air. Try using a vacuum cleaner nozzle too. You might be able to use a mirror to look inside also. Removing the heater box is the utmost last resort!

yes I thought about that didnt think about the vacuum motors I will have to look at that thanks michael
