'97 ALC Questions

Newbie here. I just bought a '97 LeSabre Limited. The ALC keeps running all the time the car is driving. It doesn't inflate the rear struts at all. I'm sure that replacing the struts will fix the problem, but shouldn't the ALC system shut off on its own and not run constantly?
I did search the forum and I'm still not sure if I can pull the ALC fuse and just install regular struts. Any down side to this?
I just bought this car to be a highway commuter and don't want to invest a ton of money in it if possible.
thanks,
james

Hello, and welcome to AF! You must have a hefty leak for the compressor to run all the time. Normally, the compressor will inflate until the car is level and then turn off. If you had a small leak, it may maintain ride height for several days before the compressor would come on. The ALC suspension has computer matched rear springs that depend on 12-15 psi being in the strut bladders to maintain ride height. Without the air assist, the rear will sag. The ALC struts only cost about 10-15 bucks more each than the standard struts. I think that after you install the new air assist struts, you will agree that was the best bang for the buck.
