What do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-Mitsubishi-3000GT-VR4-AWD-RARE_W0QQitemZ130180316397QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6350Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohost ing

Any of you 3SI guys know anything about the seller and the history of the car?
http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=400471&highlight=valve+cover

I'm weary of the leak and remote start (I've heard problems tend to occur with a manual having remote start). Also, seeing that there's so many upgrades to the vehicle, I'm wondering how much abused it's taken!?!

Anyone here have any dealings with shipping a car across the US? What it entails and about how much it would cost?

Emissions: likely hood of a car like that passing emissions in CA!?! LOL

Just wondering...definitely interested and for the right price, who knows!?! :grinno:

Depends how deep of a hole you're willing to dig for yourself. He admits he knows nothing about the car except how to drive it, so it probably hasn't been cared for TOO well. It doesn't have a chance at passing emissions as it doesn't have the factory ecu in it. It's only running 7 lbs of boost according to him, and needs a tune which could run you well over $1000 if you can't tune an AEM yourself. The fluid leak could be anything as it seems he's clueless about the car. Haven't seen him around 3si, but he was there before me so no advice there.

It does look incredible with A LOT of goodies though. If he dropped his buy-it-now about $3k I would definitely go for it, though if it's in good shape it's probably well worth his asking price. Looks like a bad ass car.

thats why i want a stock 3kgt but it doesn't mean that the car has not been driven hard but i would feel safer about it.

Emissions: likely hood of a car like that passing emissions in CA!?! LOL do you live in socal or norcal. if socal you can find a smog shop anywhere that will pass you for a little something:naughty: my dad use to take his truck to a friends place to get it "smoged" so he can pass. and when he would pass him he would buy his friend somthing to eat.

Just wondering...definitely interested and for the right price, who knows!?! :grinno: you can find one cheaper with less miles but it would be stock and i don't know if you want one stock. also it has a lot of miles on the frame and body that can't be good. don't know how many are on the engine.

EDIT oh judgeing by your zipcode you live in riverside huh? i use to live in the 92505 zip code area on cypress ave cross street la seirra. wow what a small world!!!! with the smog thing you should be able to find a place that would smog you no problem.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I'm not gonna give any advice for or against that aspect of the car. HOWEVER, it is a prety friggin sweet ride inside and out

thats a nice f'n car, if u can get it, than get it. like j said, u just saved ur ass a bunch of money if u want a modded 3/s. plus it's a clean modded car, not still in the works. only issue is the oil or tranny leak...if its far from u have someone(insurance) take a look at it. or ask the guy, he's honost enough to tell you it has that issue, he might b nice enough to bring it to a shop to find what the final would be.

as for bringing the car from Texas to Cali...i'd check union pacific, train would probably be the cheapest. and union pacific is the biggest company out in that area. and being riverside...u have metro, u probably have a freight stop somewhere there or nearby

options for getting the vr4

1) drive a truck and trailer and pick it up and trailer home...kills u on gas, well over 1000 bucks

2) train it...u'd have to look up the cost of that

3) train ur ass there and drive it home

4) plane...that's an extreem

5) take a weeks vacation with a gf or someone to go pick it up

6) i'm forgettign a few

Basically it has enough mods for it not to matter if it's a bad deal or not, because you can always just part it out and make bank if the engine's fucked...which at 10k I highly doubt it is. What I wonder is, why is it only tuned to 7 psi? They're only 15g's, shouldn't be that hard to tune a lot higher.

if you dont know what your doing on AEM it can be hard.. but shouldn't be to bad..

thats true:grinyes::grinyes::grinyes: and the car does look sick. and it has sick as interior to.
edit: if it was done at morgans motorsport i'm sure you can give them a call about any questions you have about the 3000GT, or at least to do the final tune.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

To begin with, if it won't pass emissions then purchasing the car is pretty much out of the question. LOL And I definitely won't be doing any tuning myself since I don't know how. What I would be up to doing is getting a safe-tune for it and just leaving it as is.

Also, he's shipping from Missouri, right? A bit further than TX...maybe twice as much ($2,000?)!?! And no, I'd never drive my car across the US because that'll be too much mileage on it.

ZRYDERVR4, where do you live now? I was down in Riverside for 4 years for school but I'm back in the Bay Area now. I still go down every once in awhile to visit friends and so forth though. Yes, small world indeed!

yeah that vr-4 has nearly 160 k as it is.

driver doesn't know what's leaking??? hmm...

thats like buying a 2000 dollar paintball gun, as one who has never played before. i don't believe he has done much work on cars himself.

its not that difficult, on some older systems, you can jus run the tranny sensors to ground, and it bypasses it. (just like how you can ground the E brake wire on a turbotimer)

i believe newer ones don't allow that anymore, however, i believe Directed electronics makes a 6 poin sensor system, that basically sits under your shifter, detects neutral, the sends your ignition a signal that your clutch is depressed.

Crackhedbob341
12-05-2007, 05:42 PM
so a sensor is what makes you have to push the clutch in to start the car?

i didn't know that about the turbo timer. so, when the e-break goes up, the turbo timer turns on?

mine starts counting down whenever i turn the ignition off...ebrake pulled or not, in gear or not.

you could drive it without the key...but the steering lock still comes on when you turn the wheel. It is usefull when doing car shuffles though, since both my car keys are on the same ring.

That means its not hooked up properly then. Putting the ebrake down, or pressing the clutch or brake should kill it.
