'02 Silverado Fan Speed Problem

2002 Silverado - Left Fan Speed Switch on '5' (High) overnight - Deep Freeze - Started Truck in am - drove a block - smelt 'burnt toast' in the cab - noted that the fan was not running - turned switch off - now have fan speed levels 1 - 4 but no high speed (Level 5)

Is there a fuse I can check or should I accept that I have blown the Relay?

If the latter, any on-line diagram that will aid a replacement?

(I realize the Relay is behind the glove box)

SOunds like a typical resistor pack failure. Search this forum for resistor pack and blower speed.

Many people have replaced it themselves.

12V goes in; and depending on which # you have set is how much resistance is fed to the blower motor. Your #5 has fried.

Well, just came in from - 4 degrees F - no fun checking a fuse block - & found that a 30 amp fuse labelled HVAC in the Underhood Fuse Block had blown.

Replaced it & now I have a High Speed Fan Blower setting (#5).

Settings 3 & 4 also work fine.

But, no fan action on settings 1 & 2 - I suspect I did not notice this yesterday.

Does this mean the Resistor below the glove box needs replacing?

Or is there a fuse somewhere as for the Hi Speed (he said hopefully)?

resister module is in air box where the blower motor is mounted check the cabin air filter if dirty replace before installing new resistor module card. my thery is if filter is dirty resisters over heat causing protective coating on circuit board to lift then the corrosive atmospere eats away at the resistive coatings. I repaired my module at 40,000mi and by keeping filter clean no failures........
