snow fall tracking

Anyone want to join me in some snow fall tracking? No need to be exact, just rough estimates.
3-4 days ago we had around 3"s of snow
2 nights ago we had 4"s (all melted by yesterday morning)
Yesterday & over night we had about 1'
Today we've had at least 4"s, and it's still going with no end in sight (at least for the next week).

Because my family all live here (well most of them) and I don't have the $ to move more South. As soon as I do have the $, I'm moving the hell out of here though.

I see by your profile you live in CNY, whereabouts? I also live in CNY just west of Syracuse near Baldwinsville and Camillus. It started snowing Sunday and finally let up this morning,(Thursday). At my house we received close to 2 feet total since Sunday. The flakes were huge Tuesday.I took some pics with my digital camera and just uploaded them to my computer today. Here is a sample:(Oh and by the way, yes I live in the "Lake Effect Area:lol:)
This was taken from my back deck looking at part of my backyard:

Looking off my deck towards our driveway:

Another picture of the back/sideyard

I took this one last night. As the snow continued to accumulate it actually "bended" in on itself as it got heavier:
http://i1.tinypic.com/86sgbpi.jpg
And the weather reports are indicating more of the same for this weekend :banghead:.

Oh no sh*t, I live in Liverpool. I don't live in the village, but right near the border of Clay. And that's exactly how it looked here too. I'm just glad it's finally all melting now (until it starts snowing again).

Ah, Liverpool. I'm right across the lake. Have any run-ins with the infamous Liverpool police (got my first traffic ticket there back in 1985. 44 in a 30 just at the village line by the Thruway, or the Clay clowns, ( as they're affectionately known?)

haha I try to stay out of the village whenever possible. I know people who have been pulled over for going 3mph over the limit through there; they don't mess around when it comes to giving tickets & making their $. But I've delt with the Clay clowns on a few occasions. It's kind of a mix with them, some are really nice, but most have a chip on their shoulder. Like when I got pulled over last year, because the corner of my registration sticker pealed off from my windshield a little. He kept me there for 20 minutes until he got a real call, gave me back my stuff, and simple said "duct tape, duct tape, use it" :screwy:.

We've had about 4-8" this week depending where you live in the Chcagoland area, but the ice has been the killer so far. Last night we had rain which froze as it fell and COVERED the city in ice for the third time in the last week. I had some close calls with black ice last night
This is what it looks like in front of my house. Note the shine off the sheet of ice that is the front yards of the block

we haven't had a notable amt here in Binghamton NY... just a inch or so once, then rain, then it all melts, then another inch or so, but we're supposed to get 5-10 tomorrow and have 10-14 by Saturday.
I love snow, keeps all the random fsckers off the street that are too scared to drive in 1/4" or so... yet I still drive to work everyday, and don't bother worrying about anything, especially since I'm the only dumbass on the road if it gets over 3" or so. I Love My Honda... it does great in the snow.

The moisture from "Olga" and the low pressure front from the SW merged earlier this morning, adding wet to cold... makes snow, bud. :P
Shit pry didnt' stick down on the ground tho, right?
I'm sitting in 3" already, expecting an inch per hour until 3pm. Possible 8-10" by tonite... another 4 at least by sunday, unless the storm turns northerly, then it will be less. And yes, I still have to go to work tonite..
On the plus side, if it gets really bad after I get there, I'll be able to leave early and still get paid for up to 4 hours, even if I wasn't there... if I'm there for more than 4, they just take my time on the clock...
So 2 hrs == 4 hrs, but 6hrs == 6 hrs.

I too live 20 mins from work... took me 45 to get there, about 31 to get home... home wasn't bad, there was a bitch.. they hadn't plowed the roads yet, so the only hint of asphalt was driving where every other fucktard on his way to or from work was.
It's quite fortunate that I haven't gotten around to lowering the car yet... it would have never made it to work if it was 1.5 inches lower than it is now.. I was already plowing the road on the way to work.
9.5 inches recorded today, another 4 or more to come on sunday.

Well, We're looking at another 4-12 inches tomorrow here... and that's to add to the 9 we already got, (most of which is gone from any place you'll ever see me walking/driving)... so basically, I hope it warms up a bit after this snow, and we don't see much more.. I want this one to be a dry winter.

I wouldn't count on it. Predictions are this is supposed to be an average to above average in precipitation for the winter. Here in Syracuse that can be anywheres from 120 to 170". You're not too far away, at least you don't see the lake effect we do. Your snow is from the Mid-west or coastal storms, which they say should be plentiful this year because of El Nina in the Pacific. Plus it's been a rather dry summer and these seasons tend to even things out in the precipitation department.

yeah, I've noticed that.... plus, last year's winter was pretty dry around here.. so, I guess I can't have a blessing twice... at least I'm not walking everywhere anymore.
How is life up in Syracuse? I don't really like it here in Endicott... it sux0rz... too many ppl that think they're something they're not... like thugs, g4ngst4z and cough cough... rich. They're all poor, not a damn one of them knows what a hard life is like, and none of them are willing to work full time at a real job, but they still wanna sit and bitch about how the "man" is "keeping them down"... LMAO.
I work almost 100 hours a week religiously between a full time job and home-duties and running an upstart business... and you don't hear me bitching about life.. and I DON'T have money, I'm NOT rich, or a thug, or a g4ngst4... I just live my life, and I'm happy w/ it.. how hard is that, really?..

"A foot to 18 inches of snow had been predicted for Central New York, but the snowfall turned to rain and sleet earlier today, keeping snowfall totals down. Only 4.1 inches had fallen at Hancock Airport by mid-afternoon. The highest snowfall total in the Syracuse area was in Baldwinsville, which got 5 inches."
Really, Mr. Rick Moriarty? Only a high total of 5 inches? The more 2 & a half feet of snow, currently in my f***ing yard, says otherwise. If I ever meet this guy, I will kick him square in the balls with steel toed boots.

rofl... @ kick him square in the balls.
We got another few inches last night.. it wasn't alot, but it was that light, fluffy crap that noone can drive on... I first put my car into a nice 4 ft snow bank @ 15 mph, then got stuck in my own damn driveway, b/c the guy the landlord hired to do it only charged him $10... he only charged that much for a reason.. HE SUCKS.
Then, we got a lil more snow late last night, when I had to run to the store to get lasagna noodles for the wife... It took me another 15 mins and 1/3 of the remaining tread on my front tires to get out of the driveway... then another 10 mins to get to the store, then 5 mins to park the car, since it just kept sliding through spaces.. apparently, Price Chopper hired the same dude to plow their parking lot...
Wifey is outside shoveling out the car right now, and part of the driveway, so I can get a running start to get to work, but at least the roads are done now. *(yes, she actually LIKES to shovel snow... )
I'm hoping that will be the only real storm we get for this winter, w/ the rest of the predicted snowfall coming in short spurts that only stick for a night or so, and begin melting off in the mornings.

Im sry... but i dont agree with the whole, "I cant drive my car its cuz its bad in the snow" crap... my front lip is 3 inchs off the ground. on straight summer tires.. and both the past snow storms i was passing 4x4's sliding down hills and i made it up them fine, even from a dead stop i could get up them... i think its all about knowing how to drive in it.. not haveing a car that can drive in it

No, I agree, my car is perfect in the snow, but there are times when it's so crappy, you just shouldn't drive in it, no matter what you have.
I have no problem driving in snow, although the (now) nearly bald tires on the front aren't helping, I need to put those on the back, and put the backs on the front, so I have some driving traction... I don't care where the rear of my car goes, I just need the front to stay in line.

but you said you hit a snow bank... how perfect is that?? and i was talkin about both storms where we got 10+ inches.. and i was driving in the peak of it where others with "Off road" vehicles couldny make it up a simple hill without getting stuck
Christ
12-17-2007, 01:40 PM
lol, no, the snow bank wasn't the car, it was me not paying attention... I wasn't even doing 15mph, actually, I had slowed down to take the turn onto my ave., and they hadn't plowed my road yet... they had plowed the one that I was turning FROM, but not TO... so when the tires hit the icy/slushy/snowy shit, they started spinning, which obviously led the car in the path of least resistance to momentum.. and I didn't really "hit" it, I just pushed the bumper into it b/c it was better than sliding into the nice electrical pole right next to me... hell, I didn't even go off the road.
It's not a very common thing for me to do, but hey, we all make a mistake now and then.

We got about 8-10" Saturday an I had my first summer tire mishap. I was slowing down for a red light and hit a patch of slush/ice and slowly felt the wheels come out from under me and I slid into the curb at about 3mph. I've hit parking stops harder than that. :disappoin

i agree. the civic's front bumper is 3" off the ground and the exhaust has less clearance. our kid has a school related practice up some crazy hill. our neighbor with his 88 subaru wagon drives all the kids up as none of the other parents try. except up. i'll be the first to say it's all jer's driving.
