Am i the only one that finds this annyoing? Yeah on the rare occasion that i'm relaxing on my ride and crusing down a street and I haven't seen another rider in a while, i'll wave back, but jesus christ, when i'm riding hard and every other vehicle is another waving idiot biker, i'm NOT taking my hand off the grip! And then they bitch on forums that ridings not what it used to be blah blah, no one waves, blah blah, its so aloof... get your head out of your ass and realize that im BUSY!

I wave. If the other biker doesn't wave back, I don't get offended. If I'm on a curve or in heavy traffic there won't be any waving, but on the open road, I'm good with it :iceslolan

I hope the day I pass you the other way you don't have a meltdown when I wave :icon16:

If you SEE me! I'll most likely be a black and blue blur. :D

No, i just dont want to hear you bitch about it later if i didnt wave.

Oh yeah, a lot of time when im just chilling, i have my left arm across my tank supporting my weight and keeping me up. Im too damn lazy to pull my arm all the way out just to wave for you. So i wont.

+1000000

Lazy barstool! :p Seriously, even when chilling, I rest my left hand in my lap because knees are for holding the tank.

Unless I'm in the nitty-gritty and really bustin a move, I wave at everyone (except people without helmets). But when I'm deep in the zone, most others going the other way are, too. At those times I MIGHT manage a head nod, but if not, oh well. No sense in crying over spilt milk.

12-05-2007, 09:03 PM
I always try to at least nod if my hands are tied up, I usually try to wave though when I can. sometimes I zone out and don't remember to wave till its too late but oh well.

One thing I noticed is that when I bought my bike I lived in Northern virginia and everybody waved, from guys on harleys to sport bike guys to old men on goldwings... everyone. Now that I'm back up in New York I find that alot of sport bike guys don't wave back, sometimes they even give you dirty looks for waving at them:screwy:, maybe they're just too busy hanging on? haha.

If you don't return a wave from me, I'll just follow you home, slash you open and sleep in your guts.

No hard feelings....

Seriously though, I wave to people a lot, but I couldn't care less if they return it...

I always wonder why people on scooters don't wave...I wave at those and they never return it, but sometimes look at you like you are out of your mind...I guess they don't get the wave much ;)

Meh, like i said, i'f im riding hard, im riding hard - dont bug me. If i'm chillaxin, i'm resting my weight on my left elbow on the tank. Too much effort to lean up, pull my arm alllllllllllllllllll the way out, give you your stupid wave, then find that sweet spot with my elbow pad between the tank and my elbow again. No thanks.

I agree with steel that people that bitch because you don't wave back are a little too sensitive. I enjoy the friendly habit of doing so, but the situation doesn't always allow it. I will nod if I see you and my hands are busy preventing a stack, but I'm not going to see every bike. If I'm in traffic, and trying to avoid being run over by some cell-phone blabbing ass-munch drifting into my lane, don't expect a wave. Preventing myself from becoming undercoating on a mini-van is more important to me than your feelings, and I'm not sorry!

aussieidiot

ok, how about traffic light etiquette.

i hate the knobs (sorry, aussie slang, aka dickhead) who will sit opposite you at lights, all the time in the world for a nod or a wave, but noooooo! they wait until you start moving and need your hands for stuff like..... i don't know..... fuckin throttle and clutch!!!

Or better yet, the knob that pulls up right next to you in your lane like he's riding with you. Excuse me ass-wipe, but this is my road space. Back the hell off or I'll kick you over into the next speed limit sign I see.

Jeff, scooter riders don't wave because the added wind resistance slows them down so much, that they won't regain the lost speed until it's time to slow at their destination. That and they might drop their Capt. Kirk action figure that their clenching in their hand. After all, Kirk can't be put in the under seat storage area, that's where all their porn mags are so their mom doesn't find them in their room.

I dont ride anymore, and neither would you if you lived through what I have.

But seriously, I miss the comrodary more than anything, and waving to other bikers is the SINGLE COOLEST THING bikers have. No one in a car gives a crap about anyone else in a car. I have driven past other cars on fire. But i have seen and personally stoped on the side of the road to check on other bikers.

If you dont want to wave fine, but dont get your panties in a bunch cause the rest of us are having fun.

From time to time I'll be driving my car and wave to a motorcyclist without thinking about it....they sometimes return it, sometimes keep looking back like "Do I know this guy...?"

I have helped a lot of stranded bikers, and have always been helped when I was stuck...it is great to be part of something bigger than yourself.

I ran out of gas in the country on the Intruder once ( :banghead: ) just having such a good time I forgot I was running on reserve. Sat on the shoulder for about 40 minutes while dozens of cars and several bikes went by...finally this grizzly guy with an older FXR and a braided beard and his lady on the back stopped...they asked what I needed, he said they'd be right back, and came back with 2 gallons in a borrowed can...they waited while I got it primed and fired up, we BS'ed for about ten minutes, then they left, they refused even the money for the gas...he just said pass it on to another rider...

About two months later in the same area I saw a young kid on a really nice old Suzuki GS750 hunched over fiddling with the carbs on the shoulder so I stopped...it wasn't getting fuel and he said he'd only ridden about 75 miles since filling it...first bike, was given to him by an uncle, first time on the highway with it. It had fuel in the tank, so I switched it to reserve (he was unaware of this feature :p) and it lit after filling the carbs..so I followed him to the next gas station and then told him the first commandment of motorcycle fuel...never forget to put the petcock back to "ON" after filling...or next time you run out, you're stuck...

Reminded me of another time I stopped to help a couple on a stretched custom with a big custom stroker motor...they too were out of fuel, the guy sheepishly admitted the whole purpose of the trip was to run it down to reserve, check the mileage, then hit reserve and find a gas station...he wanted to see how many miles he could go with this new motor before filling...but had left the tank on "RES" the last time he filled it:banghead:...so they were OUT...

One other time there was a guy on the side of the road with another custom, I stopped to help. He looked like he was ready to have a stroke he was so frustrated...bike had sputtered and died, but would start fine but every time he got on and tried to ride away and it sputtered and died again, he said it was brand new...after watching this demonstrated a few times I thought I heard the "Tic" of electrical arc just before it would stumble and die each time...finally I saw it was a sender switch in the back of the case, it was turned in a way that allowed it's terminal to rub the monoshock rear suspension when he sat down and compressed the shock...it had been happening for a while, but the paint had finally rubbed off that spot and was grounding it out and causing the thermal breaker to pop a to protect the ignition...got a wrench and turned the sender so there was no contact, and he was back in business...

those 650s aren't bad, the power to weight is horrible but they can pull 90mph...not bad for a scooter...I like when people wave but there are situations where it is appropriate. Hauling ass in telegraph canyon is not a place to wave, but cruising on hollywood blvd is.

All I can say is those of you who are too busy or too cool or too chilled to wave at your fraternal comrades are richards. How does anybody bitch about it to you for not waving - you're passing each other in opposite directions?

The only good thing about it is that when you don't wave, we can tell you're someone who can afford a motorcycle, not a motorcyclist or biker.

Aussie, I don't care if someone is riding a pink 50cc Honda with "My Little Pony" stickers on it - you DO NOT interfere with someone's ability to ride! I mean what kind of a rectum are you, stalling someone's bike at a traffic light on a public road? The other rider could have been killed because they BOTHERED you? And other readers here think it's cool and funny?

God! really, what a bunch of holes. Stay the freak at home off the road. I dropped in to maybe read a post or too, get a little amusement, maybe offer some advice. I'm so pissed, ahh, screw it.

1) what the fuck is a "richard". IF YOU MEAN DICK, SAY IT PRINCESS!

2) for your information. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/motorcyclist http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/biker

so in your "informed opinion", a person who can afford a motorcycle, yet is neither a motorcyclist or a biker would infact be someone who owns a bike yet fails to operate it and therefore it would sit in the garage with zero miles.

And in that statement you state "we can tell...." hmmmmm if it's only you, Laverne, it doesn't make it a plural "we".

3) I'm an asshat. get with the program Nancy! (rectum sombrero for those of us outside Canadia)

4) highly unlikely, but well deserved if it had have happened.

5)Is was FUCKIN funny. check out an old video called Las Vegas Extreme for the exact re-inactment. only it involves people who don't ride scooter's

6) see point 1. (only insert "holes" for "richard" and "asshole" for "DICK" (thought i should point that out just in case you didn't quite get the drift)

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, people don't wave because they are actually riding. which involves full concentration and control. Maybe they are watching an SUV soccor mum putting on makeup and too busy concentrating on her to notice another biker. Maybe they are in the middle of a gear change. Maybe they are doing something much more important to them, at that moment in time, to give a fuckin shit about another guy who'll they'll never meet again, and if they do, never recognise anyway, and, God forbid, hurt the little guys feelings *sniffle*

wake up and sniff reality Susan!

Ps. Me calling you female names is an in-joke. It refers to the fact you may infact have girl qualities (no offence to Speed Diva or any other female who doesn't like being likened to an FuckiNAsshole) . Yeah well look what you're used to riding...:grinyes:...I guess it would feel slouchy.

15 second quarter...slow for a bike, fast for a scooter, average for a car...

But it's deceptive, mostly from initial lag from the CVT...once rolling it stays in the powerband with no shifts...feels slower than it is because you don't hear the motor rising and falling...just a steady pull that feels flat...

Actually at the time I was riding a 1991 Honda CBR 600F2, lol, still quicker than the scooter but not by much! To me two wheels is two wheels, I'll ride with you if you have a scooter as long as you can go the speed limit. I draw the line at mopeds and anything smaller than 125cc bikes.

Yeah, I failed anger management. I actually had to do a "conflict resolution" course through work because i called a bloke "fuckin useless" to his face and sent him home. apparently that's not how supervisors should act.
but the way i see it. even the golden arches has standards that include wearing pants.
all the course did for for is show me how the other party feels and what NOT to say, now i just say the wrong thing on purpose.

Its all about shits'n'giggles for me. I do stuff to shit people and i giggle. simple

I don't have a problem with scooters. its the riders. if they realise that they aren't quick and behave themselves then i'll respect them.

This winter sucks, as we haven't had any of the typical 2-3 day warm-ups that let me squeeze in a day of riding. Oh well, spring should be here soon, can't wait!!!

I think I might have to give in and put a sticker on my cage... I don't have any other stickers on my car (just 1 Steelers vinyl cling), but at least I wouldn't look totally stupid waving to bikers if I went through with this:

Somehow I just heard about this in the last year, and this thread made me think about it again. Does anyone else on here have these stickers?

I'm not a bumper sticker kind of guy, but at least it's not an "honor student" one. I almost bought a sticker that said my kid beat up your honor student, but I decided against it. Go one better and get another bike.

Math teacher and a Steelers fan, you just keep getting better all the time Speediva (shut up Blayne!!!).

Just to make sure you don't think I'm some sort of stalker Speed, I'm happily married and just goofing around. I'm not some cyber wierdo trying to pick you up.

That sounds like something a cyber stalker would say to cover up his intentions...:nono:
