1989 Chevy Astro 4.3 oil pressure spikes to high upon acceleration. I have recently flushed the engine and changed the oil and filter to try and correct this, but no change. There is some rattling from the engine upon acceleration, but it goes away in a couple of seconds. Any ideas?

So you actually believe that oil pressure transducer?? I would say that yes oil pressure is building upon acceleration- but not that much-- your transducer is probably funky and giving you false high readings-- my '94 has had about 5 transducers in it- most of the time they fail by reading too low--so I plumbed in a real oil pressure gage along side of the standard transducer- and also an electrical red/green light- so when the oil pressure gage starts acting up- and my green light is still on- I know I am safe. I just get tired of changing that transducer- although it is very easy to get to- behind the distributor- just have to remove the doghouse. My advice to you is double check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge o be sure what is going on.............

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't doubt that the guage is reading "funky", however it does concern me that there is engine rattle upon acceleration, like the top half is not getting any oil. I have never had ANY oil issues with this vehicle. I will check the pressure manually, but I believe the problem is deeper than just the guage. At idle, there is no noise and the pressure guage reads normal, but when accelerating, rattling and the pressure guage spikes. Any other thoughts?
