If i were to go to a junkyard and pull a 5/speed tranny for the 2.0L motor, how could i tell without actually driving it to see if the transmission is good or not?

I'd look at it the same way I'd look at buying a used car.
If the odometer is still in it. Brake/clutch pedal wear, inside carpet wear etc.
Ask the yard guy if it was a wreck or just brought in as junk. If it was a wreck, then chances are the trans would be OK. If it came from an insurance company impound, then the chances are really good. They rarely salvage parts.
Try to find out where insurance co's in your area, haul their totalled out cars. Ask your adjustor. All the companies usually all use one yard.

Another simple way to make sure the gears are at least connecting is use the spleen and turn it by hand through each of the gears once its out of the car. put it in first , spin , see if the cv sockets spin then move to second , repeat through 5th and reverse and at least you can then tell the stuff inside is connected.

I don't think i've ever heard of a eclipse ending up in the junk yard because of a tranny anyways :/

Or you could always just ask the person in charge of the junkyard if the tranny is good or not... They have to keep a record of all parts and whether or not they work properly...

You can't. Most places will have like a 90 day warranty or something. Or just buy a reman'd one.
