has anyone had the startup chime stay on?

1996 740i:banghead: I am not sure what the trigger is but the minute i start the car the initial high pitched chime stays on!!!!!!!!!! never changing pitch. i have checked all the basics. doors lights and so on. I also have a snap on scanner but i am not getting any codes from it or the control check display. any ideas
