distributer ??????

i have a 1345 code coming up on my truck replaced sensor went off for 6 weeks or so now back so i pulled the cap off to ckeck if anything was loose and i found that rotor has about an 1/8 turn play in it no side to side play just twist play is normal????

That is not the problem, the cam sensor to crank sensor correlation must be set using a scanner. BTW always post the year and engine.

Actually a loose rotor on the dist shaft is one of the things to check for a P1345 code ('98 Service manual). Manual says if you can "gently rotate the rotor" and it turns (doesn't say how much) the dist needs to be replaced.

Other issues are: 1.) A loose CMP sensor. 2.) Excessive free play in the timing chain and gear. 3.) Distributor installed one tooth off in either direction. 4.) A loose hold down bolt allowing the dist to go out of time.

I have a 97 305 1500 and have replaced both of these sensors. do both sensors have to be put in"sync" with a scanner or does my ECM learn this on its own?

Timing and sensors are not adjustable.
But.
The dist sync has to be set with a engine capable scanner.
