Weird Turn Signal problem, 95 taurus Sedan

Let me preface this by admitting something that I know was probably a stupid thing to do. I realize I probably caused this problem myself and am to blame.

I have a car amplifier and a subwoofer in my car. The amp has a wire that you're supposed to hook into your stereo receiver that tells the amp when to turn on(when the car is turned on). My stereo doesn't have a connection for that so I found a work-around. I found a fuse in my under-dash fushbox that is only on when the car is on so I hooked the wire up to that instead. It's a 15amp fuse located in the 2nd row from the left, 4th fuse down from the top(in case any of you have a 95 taurus or other models have the same fusebox). Have not checked any of the fuses under the hood. I don't have the owners manual and I don't know what fuses are for what.

A couple days ago I noticed the the wire had come out. Didn't think anything of it, just reconnected it. The car was off when I did that, however the wire could have come out while the car was on. After driving for about 10 minutes, I noticed that my turns signals stopped working. Checked some of the under-dash fuses and couldn't find any that looked bad. I've only eyed them, I haven't tested them with a meter. I also noticed that my rear defrosters don't work. That kind of scares me because I can't see how they would be related because the defroster switch is on the dashboard and the turn signals are obviously on the steering wheel column. Everything else I've tested works including the wipers which are on the same handle switch(complicated car technical jargon :> ) as the turn signals. At this point my main concern is getting my turn signals working again since you can't really get pulled over for having broken rear defrosters. I should also say that I haven't been able to test whether the rear defrosters actually don't work or if it's just the power light for the defrosters that doesn't come on. There hasn't been any weather conditions that would require me to use my defrosters since I noticed the problem a couple days ago.

The thing is, my emergency lights do work, except for the front right one. If I click the blinker switch up(to what would normally turn on my right blinker), then all the blinkers will blink but only if the emergency lights are on. This atleast lets me know it's not a burnt bulb.

I've read in other threads on here that the multi-function switch in the steering column might have something to do with it.

I'm a computer guy. I can write a web page and fix your computer but I know next to nothing about cars. I haven't taken it anywhere yet because I'm a big fan of fixing a problem yourself if it is feasible to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just a direction to head in.

At some point in time you might consider getting an owner's manual for your car by download, etc. By the way, the '96 is redesigned so that would be too differentfrom yours. A here mentioned site is mhttp://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp
I couldn't get it to work, so for now I suggest you look at this page that is part of the AutoZone site. It has the fuse block and what is supposedly conneted to each fuse.

At first it sounds like you have fuse problems, then things sound inconsistent to be that with things that both arre and aren't working on a circuit. Something happened with that wire going in or out causing chaos. I'd look for arcing that would have severed wires, joined wires in the back of the block or something got moved. I really think you have one or more fuses or wires mot right. You can try swapping like fuse around to verify they are good or not. Lastly, there is a fuse box under the hood right under the driver side wiper arm that you may also need to check. Hopefully with the fuse block diagram, you can decide which circuit you want to tap into and use a blue wire splice (clamshell like thing that you close onto the host and taping wire) that you just squeeze on to an existing wire going into the block. Good luck let us know what happen!

Took my car down to the shop today. The guy said he's got a few parts cars so hopefully he can pull anything he needs off of that and keep my repair costs down. Hopefully he can figure out what the problem is too, which I suppose is the first step.

I'll post a reply if and when he figures out what the problem is.
