AEG Mercedes C9 1988 LM

My first post here.

The kit is a Tamiya Sauber Mercedes C9. As a rookie I was not familiar with silver paints thus I turned to this deep blue version. Actually the paint is black so it looks cooler. AEG decals from Studio27, PE parts and CF decal from Scale Motorsport and safety belts from Crazy Modeler.

Comments please.

Nice work with the decals, they can be a real pain. Nice to see a non-silver C9. Great job and well done

another great work work by a so-called "NEWBIE". This looks fantastic. What did you use for sealing the decals (Clear Coat)? Why did you paint it black, when the original would be dark blue?
Awesome detaiuling and wiring as well. I´m looking forward on more models of you.

Welcome to AF!
Maybe you´re new here, but you´re definitely not new to this hobby

Shiny paint, nice detail, great finish! What else can i say?
...You have to take bigger pictures in future! :icon16:

How did you treat the tyres to get such a nice look?

The clear paint is Gunze's Mr.Color GX100 (the so-called Super Clear 3), a very cheap clear paint (compares to Finisher's GP2 or so). I know the original color is ultra dark blue (which is a bit odd and old-school in my opinion). Black gives the model a cooler feel.

I used toothpick to write those letters on it, applied the tyre decals then
"dry brushing" it with Tamiya's XF-1 Flat Black. The technique is similar to weathering.

I've got big pictures but I'm afraid they might be too big.

Wow!

Gotta be one of the most awesome C9 I've seen. Do you have the WIP pictures??

I liked how you change the dark blue to black.

This is the way they should have looked! Absolutely gorgeous paint! I think I need to track one of these down now.

More pics here.

I cut the "no.62" decal in 2 pieces as to apply them seperately.
Line pattern behind this was applied seperately too.
(how to call that part above the front wheel in English? Thermal grill?)

The silver part on the dashboard is a PE kit.
The red ring on the rear suspension is in fact decal of a red line.
It would be too hard to paint a red ring on it.

The Michelin decal was taken from the front part. It should be under the
Castrol decal but there's not enough space. While the original decal here is a much bigger logo for the Spa 1000Km version, not the LM ver.

The side plate is also a PE part so it's much thinner than the plastic kit.

It's so interesting to see the car have a white rear view mirrow on the left
and a red one on the right even from this aspect.

The SMS CF template decal actually covers the whole under side of the chassis.

================================================== =====
Here's a picture (From RSC (http://www.racingsportscars.com/)) of a real C9 competing in the Spa 1000km race, and
below it is one from 1988's Le Mans.

You can see they had different rear wing and side plates.

Ahh, the good ol' "Circuit Board" C9. my favorite...I've always felt the car looked better black, than dark blue, and you proved it!

Beautiful job!

One thing....the mirror colors are backwards, right? ;)

I've refered to lots of pics but it's a pity that nearly every one of them
differs from each other. (Why did they paint the mirror in different color?)
The painting now is according to the instruction.

Simply amazing.

Not much more to say, really. A very clean build. And the paintjob is just superb.

Great car, great model. Now show us more of your work !!!
