Mercedes S600 Limo

Hello model builders. I am working on a Mercedes S600 limo. I thought of doing this for years after seing someone do a 1/43rd scale version from 2 Minichamp models of same car. I thought why not do a 1/24 scale version by Tamiya. I didn't want to take chances on my 2 Tamiya S600 kits so I purchased 2 CC Lee kits from ebay. I started on it 2 years ago and also gave up many times on it because of problems with making the body look normal. Then I felt the need to finish it and started back on it a few months ago. Here is the kit I used which is not as nice as Tamiya but not a bad kit. I'll post pic of interior and exterior later. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee34/fastdupree/DSC03767.jpg

Looks pretty cool, But I think I would have smoothed the rear Sunroof out.

Here it is now. I still have the bottom half to do plus more polishing. I thought of getting rid of the back sunroof but then remember that it is a limo. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee34/fastdupree/DSC04160.jpg

this is new~ i always see people making S600 limo, but never a 600sel! i guess the kit is too rare/precious.

Yes, And your right, these kits are so rare, you don't want to take chances and mess it up. It took me 2 years to get it to this point. I might just do pretty well with a Tamiya version now. The 2 CC Lee kits I used to make this car was very cheap (about $7.00 each) 2 years ago on Ebay but they are also rare kits to find. I just hope this turn out well for me.

I don't have much time in my life for my hobby plus I'm working on too many projects at once. But, I finally got my grill done but had a major problem happened when my limo dropped and cracked when I tried to catch it. I am repairing it. I might just fill in the sunroof also. I made these AMG wheels for the limo but might just put them on my Fujimi AMG E55.

Later, I might just do the same with my Tamiya kits if this come out OK: but on the other hand, I won't need to use my Tamiya kits if this come out right. Anyway, What color will you make your?

i am definitely going to make it black! with tan interior. i think thats the best combination for the kind of car the 600SEL is.
and yes...this kit is sooo rare...it costs me a fortune to get it on Ebay! whereas the "sister kit" (S600 Coupe) is not, i got my hands on the S600 coupe and S600 coupe AMG for a decent price.:grinyes:

I Have 2 AMG S600 coupes, 3 600SELs and 1 regular S600. I am starting with this limo for practice but look forward to yours also. My interior might not be as good as the exterior because it is cheap looking compared to the Tamiya's but I hope to do my best to make it right.

Here are some updates on my limo. Sorry I took so long.
I fixed it but black color was off. Than tried to paint it and it cracked again.

I decided to get rid of the 2nd sunroof. (Credit M-Tuning's idea). The body cracked several times since then.

I cracked the body many times because I never allowed the paint to completely dry before polishing it. Finally I think this might work.

More updates soon. Working on many projects at once while also looking for new employment.

Nice body and paint. I can't really see it, but is that window trim BMF-ed?
fastdupree
03-11-2008, 03:35 PM
No, It's not BMF but I will be putting BMF on it in other areas though. I just wanted to do the silver paint around that area for a reason plus that silver area is not completed yet. If I don't like the outcome, I will replace with BMF. I just wanted to show update pic to let AF know I'm still working on it.

Very interesting coversion. I had thought about doing it myself. Only thing is I am not too sure what is the best way to put the bodies and interior together. Nice of you to show some tips. Thanks.

Hello guys, Thanks for the comments as always. Kenyap83, Hopefully you can tell from my pics how or where I cut the body. First, start with the body of the car and work with the under carriage and interior from that. I cut half off the passenger door on both sides of 1st car and half of the front doors on the second car. Sanded until they fit even. I couldv'e did better by cutting in the panel line area but too late now. After doing your body, just look at the photos and you will get an idea of where to cut the bottom or interior. I cut in areas of the bottom that might hide the fact that it is two cars. Interior is the easiest because all you do is place the extra front seats backwards in the car and it will hide the glued body area. My build is painted a dark color but next time I will use a lighter color and use a Tamiya body also because I will know what to expect. I'll be posting more pics soon of the crome BMF I just finished today plus trying to find employment also so I'm really busy. Good luck to who ever wants to build a Limo and I would love to see others.

Yes, the end is near. Added headlights, rear view side mirrors, back lights and door handles. I also put a piece of metal sticking up on the hood to add a Mercedes emblem on which I'm making because I didn't have an extra metal emblem from the kit and wasn't going to use a crappy plastic looking one. Will soon add emblems and complete tomorrow along with the E55 AMG.

Yes, and I have all of the old AMG versions except the 600SEL AMG sedan. I even have 3 Tamiya 600SEL sedan kits, 1 S600 coupe, 2 AMG S600 coupes, 1 500SL AMG and 1 500SL plus a couple 560 SECs. This limo I'm building is from 2 CCLee kits which are the same 600SEL but a very crappy kit to build. I will have a much easier time building a Tamiya version of this same car. I will hopefully snatch up a AMG 600SEL soon but money is tight right now and I have way too many other kits to build already. This was just a project to see how a limo would look like to me in this scale.
