hello my mother has a 1998 ford contour v8 and two years ago i was on a trip with it across the US and Canada during the trip. the alternater broke so we had that replected with a new one and then winter came along and the car will not stay runing it will revv right up then drop or just stoll it will only do this in the winter. but my mother swears that there is a switch to turn it from summer to winter she swears that the guy said something about switching it over b/c he asked if the car was getting hot in the disert

Its probably the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve sticking from the cold temperature.
By the way, contours dont have V8s. ;)

sorry about that i did mean a V6s my mistake but how would u fix the IAC from sticking is there a easy way that dose not cost a lote of money

You can take it off and clean it with some Berrymans B12 cleaner. Generally the carbon build up causes it to stick.
